His trust in me is as crucial as mine in him. How can he run me properly if i am not giving him the information he needs with which to do so? He must trust that i am telling him everything i think and feel, and how everything effects me, and everywhere i go, and who i am going with. How else will he know precisely how i will respond to something, or if there is a problem lurking ahead?

Do the Masters/Mistresses/Dominants need as much trust in their sub or slave, and in what ways?

And now for the minority opinion.

Personally, in a owner/slave relationship I find the degree of trust necessary is inversely proportional to the degree of control I have. That is, the more direct control over the slave I have, the less need there is for me to trust them. That means in a LDR I have to trust them quite a bit because there is very little or no direct control. Someone living in my house and dependant on me for shelter, food, clothing (optional), is very much directly under my control and being able to trust them is a good deal less necessary.

But... (and you just knew there was gonna be a but, didn't ya)

While I may not have the same need for trust, it is nice and it makes things much easier. Being able to trust them allows me to relax, let down my guard, not have to constantly be watching to see if they are misbehaving and need to be disciplined. It means I don't have to be draconian, I don't have to focus so much of my energy on staying in control... on constantly actively dominating them. Instead I can focus some of that energy on more pleasurable pursuits which tends to be a much happier situation for everyone.

So... to sum up my answer to your question, as a dominant do I need to trust the submissive as much as they do me. Short answer, no. But to have a happy, healthy, enjoyable relationship its good to be able to trust them just as much as they do me.

Yes, trust goes both ways, absolutely. Another "yes" vote here.

The boss is human too.

Trust is vitally important to me in the beginning. I tend to be quite cynical about new prospects, many of which who claim they want to worship me, or be my "slave" and so forth when they don't even know me. We hear so much about how delicate and important the trust of a submissive is, but in fact trust is a symbiotic exchange that is (usually) required to be present between both parties.
