PS, did you - like me - once think that 'slash speak' referred to discussions about golden showers?

PeonForHer -> RE: Lower case, upper case letters (8/9/2009 3:25:38 PM)

Hah!  Silence, eh?

Politesub53 -> RE: Lower case, upper case letters (8/9/2009 3:26:58 PM)

Silence is errrrrrrrr......Golden, I seem to recall.

You're right, it doesn't change the intent,it can, however change the way it is interpreted. Speaking only for myself, someone who does not capitalize usually comes across to me as uneducated. There are exceptions to this, but those took time.

AlexandraLynch -> RE: Lower case, upper case letters (8/9/2009 4:34:12 PM)

I don't have any control over how people write on the boards. Therefore, I don't get bent out of shape about it.

However, one of the very first things I tell a prospective candidate is that if they don't quit with the slashy speak, they'll earn a point in the "incompatible with my house" column.  I prefer well-written, grammatically correct English, and while I will be understanding of the dyslexic, I have no mercy for the lazy and the faddish. And part of this game is that my people do things the way I prefer to have them done.

However, you should remember to capitalize my name.  (I think most other dominants would agree.)

and i do capitalize your name, MsStarlett =]

MaamJay -> RE: Lower case, upper case letters (8/9/2009 7:29:37 PM)

As I've said before (and doubtless will again), I use caps and littles to identify which of My 2 personas (Jay the Domme or violet the sub) is "speaking" when I am writing. They obviously have different perspectives on some things and I figure it could be confusing to the reader if Maam Jay is enthusing about being in subspace! It also helps ME keep in mind who is speaking when I am writing, so it's a tool for Me and the readers.

Once a sub has moved past the initial chat and starts to get more serious about communicating with Me, this is a discipline I may impose for a while simply because it serves as a reminder of the D/s whilst writing. subs I have done this with have said it helps them to remember to be mindful how they phrase things. For eg, when chatting, it's not appropriate for them to effectively dismiss Me from the conversation with words like "Ok, I'm off to have dinner now, see you". It's appropriate for them to say "Maam, it's dinner time now, been great to talk with You, may i go please?" The caps and Maam seem to help keep them in the right mindset, so if it works ...

I've eased up considerably on the slashy/speak though as I can see that it makes posts harder to read. I can glide over the caps!

Not really sure where to post this but I thought here might work.....
<snip>the Dominate may do as They please without the sub complaining....</snip>

Everyone needs something to believe in, I believe I'll have another beer, thanks.

Psst: Am i the only one who noticed this????  I can agree with the non capitalization of pronouns mid sentence, and that S/slashy S/speak makes eyes bleed.  Please remember a person is dominant.  Said dominant can then dominate  someone else.   That being said, I'd love to sit down at a beer summit with you, my treat.

Well, with an average of 10 post per day in the 27 months you've been a member, I'm guessing silence is high on your list of  priorities....

I am only silent when I am either told to shut up, or gagged. Mind you, i tend to go quiet if I spot someone holding nipple clamps. [;)]

fadedshadow -> RE: Lower case, upper case letters (8/10/2009 12:22:19 PM)

nipple clamps = fun

or those things that keep the chips fresh haha

Taggerung -> RE: Lower case, upper case letters (8/11/2009 6:04:01 PM)

Personally, I don't use the caps. I don't like it but, it's totally a choice thing. I think a lot of the problems that stem from the capitalization thing is the content not the actual act. But really Im going to be aggravated with the message regardless of how they type it.
