dcnovice -> Seen "Bruno"? What did you think? (8/9/2009 8:47:33 AM)

I saw "Bruno" the other day and can't quite decide what I think of it. Parts of it were very funny. Parts seemed cruel, as if the film were making fun of people for being themselves. I'm curious to hear what others thoughts of this movie.

I thought it was clever, I thought the fact that some still harbor that much bigotry needs to be mocked

i do like how it exposes how easily people get offended

VanIsleKnight -> RE: Seen "Bruno"? What did you think? (8/9/2009 2:25:52 PM)

After seeing the first one, Borat, and then hearing how Bruno is about a hundred times "worse" I honestly don't know if I could handle it.  Don't get me wrong, I laughed very hard through the first one, but I worry about 1) dying of laughter 2) having my funny bone broken 3) having my mind broken 4) seeing that which cannot be unseen [8D]

Just... I don't know how he could have topped naked fat man wrestling. D:

I thought Bruno should have been X rated.  My partner and I walked out during the scene where the parents are being interviewed as to the extremes they would go to get their babies in a movie.

"No redeeming social value", IMHO.

i didn't get past the fashion show in the beginning when he's in the velcro suit. it just....it's not funny to me, it's.......I don't know it's just not my cup of tea.

It's just not the type of movie that interests me at all. I certainly would never spend money to watch it. If I see any part of it at all, it would be a situation of a group gathering and it being on and watched by others.

Really? I thought the fact that those ignorant prats would actually want to do that was a pretty great thing to show the world, because its appalling that they did, and hopefully it would wake people up to the crap that people believe.

No interest in Bruno. That type of humor doesn't fit into my little world.

Exactly and isn't that simply hilarious?[8|] Not to me. I can take a good satirical social observation as well as anyone and, if it's classy and clever, I'll laugh just as hard. Borat wasn't funny and neither is "Bruno." Cohen strikes me as a pompous ass. I see enough of those without having to pay money to do so..........luci

Oh, I see my identical twin posted right before me[8D]

the whole plethora of gay jokes was annoying in bruno

I loved it. Made my side hurt.

Im not totally sure its bigotry. If a guy acted that way toward me and I wasen't 'in on the joke' and didn't know what was going on ..... I would probably get just as angry and upset at the guy.

I dont hate you because you are gay, I hate you because you are a fucking obnixious asshole.

I see your point but at the same time the intensity of the reaction to the kissing was dramatic

elegantcdgoddess -> RE: Seen "Bruno"? What did you think? (8/13/2009 9:14:57 AM)

i liked the Borat, and the Ali G show was good, so i expected Bruno to be great. But in my opinion it was gay-Borat. Same story, same old tricks that works. Like all they wanted was cash in the proven formula, rather then be inovative. Yes, there are some good parts, but in general, i was hoping for more, and for something fresh.

mantis65 -> RE: Seen "Bruno"? What did you think? (8/13/2009 8:19:02 PM)

I laughed at that scene ….but it made me uncomfortable. The look of absolute hate in the eyes of some of those people.  It reminded me of a time I was watching one of the death wish drive - in movies as a kid and the whole audience was cheering way to loud for the African American getting shot in the head. The scene in Bruno is funny but it also makes you think.   some people would have no problems destroying something they don’t believe has a right exist. I know a lot of this movie was staged but I fear that part was not.

I wish there were a guide to just what was staged and what wasn't.

dc. I think the second quote was staged.
