Les Paul, dead at 94. Just broke on CNN. Honestly, I had no idea he was still alive at all.
Modern music owes him an enormous debt. Among his other accomplishments, 70 years ago, he pioneered a peculiar little gadget called an electric guitar. I believe that as a recording engineer, he was the first to use such innovative techniques as multi-track recording and tape delay. Anyone who listens to music today is listening to something Les Paul invented.
RIP, man. And thanks.
