'Non-responsive' Justice Dept. pressed again on Panthers case, By Jerry Seper, Washington Times, August 8, 2009

See also affidavit by Poll Watcher Bartle Bull

quote:

“I watched the two uniformed men confront voters, and attempt to intimidate voters. They were positioned in a location that forced every voter to pass in close proximity to them. The weapon was openly displayed and brandished in plain sight of voters…

“Their clear purpose and intent was to intimidate voters with whom they did not agree. Their views were, in part, made apparent by the uniform of the organization the two men wore and the racially charged statements they made. For example, I heard the shorter man make a statement directed toward white poll observers that ‘you are about to be ruled by the black man,  cracker.’”

“...the most blatant form of voter intimidation I have encountered in my life in political campaigns in many states, even going back to the work I did in Mississippi in the 1960s.”

What twist? I remember the video from when this happened. It is outrageous that no one has been prosecuted.

I wish I could share your outrage.

rightwinghippie -> RE: Voter Disenfranchisement OK with Obama (8/13/2009 8:45:45 PM)

Yeah, there was a time when Liberals and the Left stood for freedom, now as long as it is thugs they support brandishing weopons illegally at a polling place, it's not a problem.

But I am still not seeing the Twist...

DomKen -> RE: Voter Disenfranchisement OK with Obama (8/13/2009 8:47:56 PM)

Perhaps the lack of outrage when a US governor illegally disenfranchised thousands of US citizens to elect his brother POTUS compared to the claimed outrage over a single precinct in Philadelphia is teh twist kittin refers to?

Indeed.

So you are rejecting the Legitimacy of the American Judicial System....Thats Radical! with a capital R and an exclamation point. But kind of nonsense. Isn't it? You really think the courts are illigitimate? That whole innocent till proven guilty thing, is kind of quaint. The new world of armed thugs at the polls and no courts will be so much better. Yay!! Radical!

I think you need a prescription for some Valium or some equivalent - you're obviously not in your right mind. Good luck to you.

rightwinghippie -> RE: Voter Disenfranchisement OK with Obama (8/13/2009 9:18:34 PM)

Twist and Shout!!! Oh you Twist so Goood, Twist so Fine, Twist a little closer now, and let me know that your mine!!

I don't know about doing Valium with you Kitten, you might steal my kidneys or something.

But seriously the Courts didn't find this illegal disenfranchisment you speak of. But there is video of the thugs...
And apperantly no outrage on the left.

You mean the courts that failed to prosecute the disenfranchisement of thousands of voters by a sitting governor?

Sanity -> RE: Voter Disenfranchisement OK with Obama (8/14/2009 3:39:44 AM)

The Left is too busy falling apart and becoming more shrill and hateful than its ever been to consider the long term consequences of their dark ages behavior. Obama giving a wink and a nod to racial intimidation at a Philadelphia polling place is a welcome indication to them that their ideology finally has some power, any power - and so they embrace it.

And of course, it's all Bush's fault anyway... the buck stops there.   [;)]

Louve00 -> RE: Voter Disenfranchisement OK with Obama (8/14/2009 4:21:49 AM)

Just the left, huh?  Hmmm.  Then why are television sponsors deciding to boycott FOX for its right wing nutsism?

http://foxnewsboycott.com/tag/boycott/

Seems like the right wing talk show hosts are the hateful ones. (But I know, I know....you have it all figured out, right?) [sm=lame.gif]

FullCircle -> RE: Voter Disenfranchisement OK with Obama (8/14/2009 4:34:12 AM)

The problem with boycotts in general is companies asked to be part of one often will because if they don't that looks bad in itself. It's almost a case of guilty by association so they don't take the risk or bother looking into the issue.

Why would any company refuse to be part of a boycott on advertising? The whole idea of advertising is to have a positive outcome for your company not be associated with negativity. Thus I think any organisation joining a boycott isn't in itself a sign that the organisation believes in the issue for the boycott. They just play it safe and nobody pays for advertising that could reflect badly on them.

Although Fox news isn't at all fair and balanced I doubt many advertisers would see this as an issue to not promote their company unless there was the risk of that looking bad for them in terms of refusing to be part of a growing movement against that organisation.

Louve00 -> RE: Voter Disenfranchisement OK with Obama (8/14/2009 4:36:01 AM)

Could be.  But if its the left that is so wrong, why are they trying to play it safe by boycotting the right?

**Editted to add**  Instead of deleting this initial post, I will just say I got your point.  They're boycotting because.....the general view or consensus is....the right wing is nutso, so they'll play it safe and not advertising on their sites?   I hear ya when you say the company doesn't necessarily agree with whatever the point may be.  But they sure must get the point of the matter, if they decide to boycott to begin with.

Let me highlight one of the letters on the main page of the boycott site:
quote:

From: ******, ****** (MS38) <*****.com>
Subject: RE: Our Company
Date: Tuesday, August 11, 2009, 8:31 PM

Thank you for contacting Men’s Wearhouse and bringing to our attention your concerns with Fox News. While we support free speech and do not make advertising decisions based on our own personal ideologies, after reviewing Glenn Beck’s recent incendiary comments we have decided to remove our advertising from his program. We hope that this decision will allow you to continue to patronize Men’s Wearhouse. I would encourage you to please share our decision with anyone else who may have expressed a similar concern.

Sincerely,
**********

The two lines that stand out in this letter is the first line that indicates the boycott was brought to their attention and the one that says "We hope that this decision will allow you to continue to patronize Men’s Wearhouse" For them to mention this I'd speculate that some threat was made in the initial letter to them i.e. that they risked people boycotting them indirectly. Then when they say "I would encourage you to please share our decision with anyone else who may have expressed a similar concern." you get an idea of what they really care about.

Reviewing the other letters seems to follow the same pattern and I've not found one yet where an advertiser initiated the contact.

rightwinghippie -> RE: Voter Disenfranchisement OK with Obama (8/14/2009 5:00:50 AM)

Is that a trick question of some sort Domken, of course the courts did not prosecute anyone. The courts don't prosecute. Either the state or the agrgieved parties brings a case. And it has been a while, but as I remember it, while there were lots of allegations in the Media, when it came time to swear under penlty of Perjury, that they had been disenfranchised, no one actually would.

We, of course, all remember that the Democrats attempted to get thousands of overseas ballots disqualified for a printing error in the 2000 Florida election, mostly active duty millitary people serving in the Gulf.

Wow, maybe, just maybe there are hateful asshats on both sides. Oh and thanks for the link. I need to get my right wing freinds on the phone so they can start calling some of these companies.
