Aanakaris -> Has the bad economy affected your play? (8/13/2009 9:26:04 PM)

Toys are expensive, so is leather and latex. A dildo can run $20 or more, even quality lubricants can run $12 a bottle or more. Not to mention dungeon furniture, tens unit, stainless steel toys, violet wands, etc...

Since the Dom is often expected to provide, in more ways than one, what do you do to afford the fun things?

Make you own? Do without? Take creative trips to the hardware store? Learn amateur electronics 101 and design your own sybian?

I'm just curious about others. Myself, I do a combination of all the above (excluding the electronics 101)

Well, my plan was to make my slave build me a house. THen I figured I'd mortgage the house, rent it, and have her build me another one. That ought to pay for lube money.

*laughs* And no, I'm not kidding.

I've taken that and it's not enough to design a sybian. However if someone would like to try, here's a link: http://www.saroftreve.com/workshop/tfm.shtml

He has information for other projects as well: http://www.saroftreve.com/workshop/projects.shtml

My toy bag has been accumulated over the years.  It wasn't a case of going out and spending a ridiculous amount of money all in one shot.  It was more like a piece here and a set there.  Mine was something that I built up over time.  That's how most people seem to do it.

If I had to toss it all away and start over, I'd most likely go with a balance between making My own and converting household objects.  A wooden spoon, a hairbrush, and things that I could pick up from the dollar store.  Rope isn't terribly expensive or I could make restraints out of old belts. Rather than dungeon furniture, I'd put My funds into creating spreader bars.   A bullet runs about five dollars.  You'd be amazed where you can get lube rather cheap.  Fire play, cupping, and wax can all be done at the beginner lever for under $20.00.

You don't have to be rich.  You just have to be creative.

The economy - and my place in it - has certainly affected my ability to acquire the sort of girls I'm into, for the sort of play I'm into.

Sir would say yes. He had to take a job where i can not follow in order to reach His financial goals, therefore no sub-toy on a regular basis.  i'm sure He'd much prefer taking me to the automotive store for what people here call "pervertibles" instead of  going to sleep in a bunker.  Personally, if i wanted to get Him a new something or other, i'd go to a dollar store or some place like Target.  i mostly don't care about fancy and He enjoyed my imaginative repurposing--even before the economic "downturn" reared its' hyrda heads.

cornflakegirl -> RE: Has the bad economy affected your play? (8/14/2009 10:11:41 AM)

It's affected my ability to make money which makes me feel stressed out and less able to invest in relationships or the community around me, kinked or vanilla. In that way it''s had a pretty significant impact.

Erm. I just realized what forum this is in. Sorry about that. *backs out slowly covering her butt* ;)

littlewonder -> RE: Has the bad economy affected your play? (8/14/2009 2:40:35 PM)

We both had toys to begin with before getting involved with each other. We combined them and Master is quite creative and use just about anything to torment me.

Play doesn't have to cost a cent really.

CaringandReal -> RE: Has the bad economy affected your play? (8/14/2009 8:20:14 PM)

I imagine the sucking economy probably has a big effect on people in long distance relationships. They either can't see each other as frequently as they wish or can't get the money together to see each other at all, travel being rather expensive.

Since "cash for clunkers" was a huge success, I was thinking about writing to my Senator and see if the government would fund Vouchers for Vibrators.

Sir already has a lot of things He's collected over the years, I've purchased things over time & in unexpected places, some things have been gifted to me by friends, and I've gifted things to Sir.  Between us, we have everything we really need and then some.  Also, being creative is a plus.  [;)]

Yes it has---I recently met a wonderful woman from Pittsburgh--my god Pittsburgh-I hate driving to begin with--let alone filling the tank and and watching the thermostat for the drive. She must be worth it.

sweetsub1957 please forgive in2everything.  He was apparently tipsy typing...and is obviously on the prowl again.

Dnomyar -> RE: Has the bad economy affected your play? (9/4/2009 10:40:41 AM)

It is affecting me greatly. The Dommes and subs quit taking me to expensive resturants and now are taking me to McDonalds. One of them even had the nerve to ask if I would pay. Last time I saw she was doing the resturants dishes.

We already owned all that stuff and more but rarely used it. We are about to sell nearly all of it!
Apart from the odd bit of rope and a few selected items, we don't need nor want all the other specially made stuff as we both reached a stage of feeling it was very pretentious.

Here is a sex toy recycling program which sends you gift certificates when you send in toys.

SweetNika -> RE: Has the bad economy affected your play? (9/6/2009 5:25:54 AM)

I personally think it is unreasonable to expect the dominant to supply all of the toys. I have a toy chest and I aquire things here and there for it. Somethings are simple like a bag of cloth pins while other things are more expensive. It isn't something that I aquired all at once, nor am I done adding to it. Some women go out and get their nails or hair done when they have extra money I toy shop. lol

Plus a creative mine goes along way, an perfect example is making an ice dildo instead of buying one. OMG I will take the cold ice over hard plastic any day!
