I see that perhaps my choice of the words "right" and "owe" was not the best.

I'm not talking about legal rights, and I'm certainly not viewing a relationship as a sport or scorecard.

I posted a similar question elsewhere, and stated it something like this:

What's a Dom/Domme/Master's first duty to his/her submissive or slave?

What's a slave/submissive's first duty to his/her Dom/Domme/Master?

Does phrasing it that way make any difference?

Or, is it that since there are no rights and nobody "owes" anybody anything, there aren't any duties, either?

leadership527 -> RE: Is There Anything a Submissive or Slave Has a Right to Expect from His/Her Master/Dom/Domme? (8/16/2009 10:14:44 PM)

Wihin the roles of slave and master, her duty is, obviously to obey me. My duty is to use the authority she grants responsibly... specifically to the betterment of us. They just don't seem much like "duties". That word implies some sort of... obligation. We both do what we do because it is how we contribute into our marriage. Also, note that I said "within the "roles". Master and slave captures only one tiny slice of who we are as couple.

I'm really trying not to be obtuse here Blaakmaan. I can't help but feel that there's another question underneath this one. Why are you asking this? Perhaps it'd help us to answer more on target.

No need to get snarky, I see a huge difference from your wording here and your OP.

My first duty is  to understand what I have agreed to submit to and then abide by my agreement to submit.

it think it depends on the type of slave.submissive you are and the agreement you have.
for me i am a total commited slave to my Owners i expect them to care for my health and safety apart from that they have total control over me in everything weekly discussions and the daily diary also help overcome small things.

That depends on whether you see it as a score-card or a relationship.

I don't like the idea of anyone in relationship with me owing anything.  I do expect honesty and pledge the same.  In fact, I am more honest with my Master than anyone ever in my life and I am pretty upfront to begin with.  I expect that he will not violate my trust by going beyond the few boundaries we have agreed upon with our spouses.

littleone35 -> RE: Is There Anything a Submissive or Slave Has a Right to Expect from His/Her Master/Dom/Domme? (8/17/2009 8:39:15 AM)

Owe  i don't like that way of putting it.. My Master ad i was talking about this the other day.  He could not spend as much time as he would have liked that day with me cause he came over later than usual.  He said i don't owe you time but i will make time  to be with you, so it is different.

As for what i expect, i expect to him to be a man of his word, and to keep the promises he made when i accepted his collar.  After almost 3 years i know his word is his bond.

Does a Master/Dom/Domme owe anything to his/her submissive or slave?

Is there anything that a submissive or slave has a right to expect from his/her Master/Dom/Domme?

If so, what?...

What's a Dom/Domme/Master's first duty to his/her submissive or slave?

What's a slave/submissive's first duty to his/her Dom/Domme/Master?

either way you phrase it, it's whatever the particular individuals involved agree upon.

there are no one-size-fits-all answers because  "a" Master/Dom/Domme and "a" submissive slave are hypothetical constructs---not real individuals with a functioning relationship that is unique to the persons involved.

I don't know. It depends on whether or not they are viewed as one and the same.

Alot of people see the word 'duty' and automatically assume it coincides with 'owe and expect'. Obviously, for just as many other people, the words have nothing to do with each other.

For those of us who view the words differently, your rephrasing changes the answers.

Whatever the two decide upon. It could be honesty, it could be safety, it could be respect...it's different for everyone.
