Why is creationism an issue only in North America?

In many parts of the world it isn't an issue because the government has decided that it won't be an issue. For example Iran (God created everything, believe that or go to prison) or China (there is no God, believe that or go to prison).

That will come as a shock to the people of China.

I doubt that.

Excerpt from the link (emphasis mine):

Amnesty International has documented widespread human rights violations in China. An estimated 500,000 people are currently enduring punitive detention without charge or trial, and millions are unable to access the legal system to seek redress for their grievances. Harassment, surveillance, house arrest, and imprisonment of human rights defenders are on the rise, and censorship of the Internet and other media has grown. Repression of minority groups, including Tibetans, Uighurs and Mongolians, and of Falun Gong practitioners and Christians who practice their religion outside state-sanctioned churches continues. While the recent reinstatement of Supreme People's Court review of death penalty cases may result in lower numbers of executions, China remains the leading executioner in the world.

Hardly proves what you stated in such a colourful way i.e. China is a state that will put you in jail for believing there is a god.

Religion is tolerated but within permitted areas, why would anyone hold mass outside of a church anyway? I'll have to remember you like AI as a source for all those other debates regarding the wars

In America, not believing in God is seen as a strange quirk at best - at worst, it is seen as a sign of moral oblivion. I find the whole range of attitudes surrounding this very troubling.

I'm already morally obliviated

My quote is wrong in your post kittin because I revised an error (besides the bit I added), does make for an interesting game of spot the difference.[:D]

Difference is spelt with an 'e'. You may see me in my office after school at 5pm, pronto *slam!*.

Damnation, I saw you correct the typo, now I'm gonna correct you, bend over, I'll teach you goddam creationism!

I was speaking in generalities - making the point that in some areas of the world the evolution versus the "God created everything" debate dosen't occur because it isn't allowed to occur. That cannot be refutted.

Nor can it be refuted that there is no freedom of religion in communist China.

I find it deeply disturbing, to the point of being downright terrifying. I feel as though I'm living in a fucking vampire movie sometimes, surrounded by lunatics who want to suck my soul right out of my body.

Vendaval -> RE: Creationism in zoo (8/21/2009 1:32:19 PM)

I stay out of the whole argument by simply stating, "Half my family is Catholic, half is Protestant, so I don't discuss religion". End of discussion.
