I didn't take the 'no senior citizens' to mean they don't ALLOW older people into the club. In fact, that's illegal. I took it to mean "When I went to this place, I didn't see my grandma there wearing something even a four year old couldn't squeeze into or some sleazy 60 year old balding guy who was practically drooling all over my hair."

But maybe that's just me. It appears that being older causes some people to jump to conclusions and get upset about three little words.

I didn't take it that way either. I took it to mean that she thought this was some kind of selling point and people would be more likely to show up if there were no old people there. Now it's very possible that she didn't mean it that way, but that's how it came across to me.

As to older people jumping to conclusions, change it to read no one under 30 and watch the shit hit the fan. And with good reason I might add.

NearlyAcquiesced -> RE: The best BDSM on premise club is Quest (8/17/2009 5:59:03 PM)

Yeah, it was as a selling point, I'm sure.

PS: In America you're considered a Senior Citizen at 65, so...

no senior citizens.

Hmm not my kind of place really, somewhere who would say that as a positive seems a little too discriminatory.

I farkin' agree.

*laughs* I've been there, and yes, there are older people there, and well.. all kinds of other people. Not exactly the most hopping place as far as attendance goes (maybe because they don't want bfu and make it obvious? idk), but at least that means you get a wide variety of choices when it comes to where you want to play.

Does James know you're advertising his club like this? Really. Why on earth you'd choose to alienate people based on age or appearance is beyond me.

I also don't know that I'd boast about allowing people to bring booze... YAY BOOZE AND WHIPS! They go so well together!

I absolutely want to thank you for posting this.  There's nothing wrong with folks coming on the boards to say that they had fun at some event or it was a great experience at an establishment.  When that same post continues to hold a negative comment such as "no old people" what's really happening is a disservice to wherever it was the poster wanted to say something good about.

My first reaction to the post was that it would be a place that I would avoid, since I'm not exactly young.  I'm glad you came along to let people know that it wasn't likely that James would approve.

xchellekittyx -> RE: The best BDSM on premise club is Quest (8/17/2009 6:26:25 PM)

fast reply...

hey my only problem was no cutting...i mean whats a night of fun and booze and games without a little blood letting...

*goes to put on my vampire fangs i got at Hot Topic*

Whatever the OP intended backfired. Her snarky comments about 'no senior citizens' just proves how inexperienced she really is.

If she had any desire to really learn a damned thing, she'd be happy for what she calls 'senior citizens' to show up.

Bah. I'm just pissed off now. Her avatar pic shows off her thighs and she thinks she's the hottest thing on these boards.

Eff it. My thighs look better than hers and I'm 10 years older. Smart asses just peeve me off. But that's just me. [:)]

The woman who posted this message is the female half of a couple who were attending The Quest for their first time after attending Fetishcon last Saturday night.

There is no age restriction at The Quest, in fact we had members attending last Saturday night ranging from age 19 to age 76 years old...and lot's of folks in between.

Her comments concerning who was there and the fact that The Quest is the hottest and most exciting club in Tampa Bay were simple observations...nothing more.

This post was not solicited by The Quest, nor was it an advertisement for the club. It was a simple and innocent comment made by someone new to the Tampa Bay fetish scene.

We at The Quest try our absolute best to be friendly and welcoming to new people, and we appreciate that this woman and her husband have expressed their satisfaction with our club and with the quality of our membership.

Perhaps...the rest of you should recall that you too were once new to the scene.

Don't tell the rest of us how she screwed up. Address it with her. She just turned a whole lot of people against your group. So again, take it up with her.

Excuse me, again. When I was 'new' I respected the people who paved the way for me. I didn't insult them and say things like 'no senior citizens'.

You're only reinforcing this person, not negating what she said. And couple? She's a kid! And you're still going to sit here and say she's part of your group along with her 'partner' and justify her insulting many people.

You need to take a closer look at who comes on these boards and presumes to speak for you. Thanks for your time!

I've never been to your establishment.  I have, however, been to BDSM clubs in several states, and my favorite, far and away, is the Woodshed in Orlando.  The reason for this is that they have the best attitude I have ever seen about incorporating new people.

What I heard the opening poster say was that she felt comfortable because there were a lot of people there who looked like her, and she didn't see anyone there who would "be a turnoff."  A lot of my friends are not white, and a black female friend of mine once told me that the owner of the Woodshed took her aside and said how glad he was that she attended, because he knows there aren't a lot of people at his club who look like her.  She found that sensitive, and touching -- and so did I.

Perhaps you could emulate him a bit more.  Rather than defending a foolish post, you could go out of your way to encourage the older, the heavier, and the less "mainstream-media-sexy" to attend your club.  I don't think the post you just made was a very good public relations move, but you can handle things better in the future, if you choose to.

James, I read her profile and nowhere does it mention that she is part of a couple.  Also, despite your assertion that she only attended there once, she clearly states in her profile that she attends each and every Saturday.

You stated that she is new to the lifestyle but she's been a member of collarme for a year and her profile reads almost like she's a pro Domme.

I keep getting this nagging feeling that she's a PR stunt gone bad.

I don't have a good feeling about the whole thing.

Thanks! The OP just blew herself and her attendant spokesman right out of the water. Snippy little girls who THINK they are the be all and end all in BDSM usually find themselves outcasts eventually, no matter that someone else comes on here to try and 'rescue' them from the nonsense they've brayed about.

eyesopened -> RE: The best BDSM on premise club is Quest (8/18/2009 3:23:05 AM)

I live in Tampa.  I received an email from someone encouraging me (and my Master) to attend because "a Master needs to always be learning".  When I specifically asked if there were any local events or munches that host demonstrations instead of just play spaces, the emailer said there are people playing who don't mind answering questions.  To me, that is not the same as a demo or actual instruction.  When I pressed further about educational events, the emails stopped.

Was not entirely surprised to see this club advertised in Creative Loafing for crying out loud, inviting the general public to go buy a piece of leather clothing and come join the fun.  My Master and I are private people and the thought of any schmoe off the street with a leather vest can get drunk and watch us play.....?  No way no how!

Now this thread???

Are there any serious groups in Tampa?  Who allow us senior citizens who don't have leather pants?

We had a blast after FetishCon. The people were friendly, respectful and creative. The action started at 10pm and didn't end until the club closed. They have themed rooms and the place is sanitized after each use. You can bring your own food, booze, and toys. I guarantee you will love it. No one is judged. They had a pissy sissy locked up for an hour in a cage to be humiliated. Anything goes except cutting and scat. My kind of place. b.t.w Great looking crowd. Young newbies, middle aged milfs, no senior citizens. Crossdressers are welcomed as well. Say hi, if you see me there Saturday nights.

....Yeah.....I'm really trying way too hard to respect this even a little.  Mae West said once that "Youth is wasted on the young...."  If I wern't so old, I'd remember who said the "beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes right to the bone".   Both of these quotes are not about  the shallowness of youth and what beauty is, but more so about people in general.  You can have beauty, but still behave in a manner that overshadows that asset making them undesirable (or 'ugly' if you paraphrase it) right down to the bone.  I try hard not to judge those that generallize like this, because I have hope with change.  I also know, they will grow OLDER, hopefully wiser, and pehaps rise their heads out the the clouds that surround living in the moment.

I can respect preference on a personal level.  I have them too, as we all do.  But age, looks and appearance on a generalized level isn't right, when it comes to establishments and comments on a portion of a populous.  That sort of behavior IS ugly, and goes "straight to the bone".  By the way, the second quote is actually from Dorothy Parker, who also said:  "Lips that taste of tears they say, are best for kissing."  So for the wasted beautiful youth:  Pop-quiz with extra credit here now:  What is being said here?  (hint:  it's about experience...once you have had it, you'll understand...I'll wait.)

Yes. There is the Woodshed in Orlando, open Friday and Saturday nights, and according to their website they do demos, and have people available to help and answer questions. I've never attended because it's too far for me (though I may in the future as I've got the distinct impression I am not welcome back to the Quest), but it's got great reviews from people I know and respect.

There is The Phoenix Club in Largo, open every Saturday night.  They offer educational workshops, as well as casual play. The people there are very open and friendly.

There is Fetish2Fetish in St Pete/Pinellas, which is open for pansexuals  on Wednesday nights. Their website needs updating.

And several munches and the like as well.

There's also the Fetish Circuit which happens one Saturday a month in Ybor. Lots of good energy there. Probably my favorite place to go.

If you or anyone else have any questions, let me know. (I'm not affiliated with any of these clubs aside from being a member of both the Quest and Phoenix and having been to both the Circuit and F2F once.)
