I always try to wear socks that match my shirt. Today, someone told me I'm behind the times. According to what I was told, everyone wears white socks with everything. Wearing colored socks that match a shirt is something people did in the 80's. Socks of any color other than white are uncool. I disagree. For example, I think wearing white socks with a black and blue outfit would clash and would probably wear matching blue socks with a pair of black shoes. Who is right?

If I were socks, they are usually white.  I do that for My own simplicity of mating socks when they come out of the laundry.  LOL.

I typically wear white socks but then again most of the time you cant see my socks... I wear them for comfort only... however if I am wearing a dark outfit with my black sneakers I tend to wear black or dark socks just because I think they stand out a lot... but its all a matter of personal preference... I used to wear nothing but funky multi colored socks and still do on occasion if I have the opportunity to... My favorite are my rainbow striped knee highs!!!! But if I were you, and I liked matching my socks to my shirt, I would keep doing it... Then again, I dont often give a rats behind what other people think about me....  If it makes you happy... DO IT!

I don't own a single pair of white socks. I agree, though, that socks are just as much a part of an outfit as the top or accessories are. Usually I don't give a damn whether I'm wearing socks that even match, but when I do, they always somehow match my outfit.

On a side note, I never understood the whole "no socks/stockings with open toed shoes" rule.

Who cares?

I'd wear 2 different color socks.. each on right and left
2 different  color fake crocs .. each in opposition to the color of the socks
a multi colored t-shirt and striped capri's.

I am right !

Maybe she needed to reassure herself?
Self confidence issues?
Maybe she forgot she posted almost the same fashion phopa question 4 months ago?
Maybe someone needs to get her on WHAT NOT TO WEAR?"

If pants are the correct length, you'd not see the white socks anyway.

black or white- but really any will work- but avoid any that look worn out - holes-=- you know.

And sweety, ask any advice you want.  it is kind of fun.

This time of year- many wear sandals-  but that can be a turn off- in that the summer heat- well- when having food- who wants to look at bare feet?  (in 100 degree weather)

I wear hose with my open toe shoes.  I don't wear the "reinforced toe" style.  I'd get a blister on my heel if i didn't.  Now sandals, no, hosiery isn't needed, but then I don't wear sandals at work.

OP, wear what makes you happy.  I wish the men's sock garters would make a full fledged comeback.

they are supposed to be the same color or darker than your hemline.

Anytime I wear sneakers, I wear white socks.  If I'm wearing some type of closed shoe, sometimes I match the socks to my pants, but more often than not, I wear nylon peds or nylon knee highs which eliminates the issue entirely.
