There is Tay Sachs in European Christian populations as well, but at an approximately 25 factor lower rate. Why does that difference exist? They succeed in a minor way by having cousins marrying cousins, as when homozygotic the deleterious genes are often lethal, removing two alleles at once from the gene pool. Despite this drastic measure, Asjkenazic jews still have approximately 25 times higher frequency of Tay Sachs than European christians. Apparently christians have a better way to throw out deleterious alleles from their gene pool than Asjkenazic jews.
