MysteryMusic, Our dog is afraid of thunder storms, and the last time we had a really bad one I had accidently pulled the blinds down trying to retract them so I could watch the storm* they're broke* and so she layed on the other side of the bed on the ground  hiding from the storm.

Then by that degree if there's a dog who will not lick faces or kiss, are they being disrespectful?

Not really.  It means that they do not consider you "higher" in the pack than they are, or they have been trained not to do it.

Considering everything else they lick... I am not taking it as a sign that they like me, even though it might be. I mean come on... comparing some of those places is just human demoralizing and I just don't want to friggin know! They rarely get the chance to lick my face... I know where that tongue has been!

Well, Lockit, puppies lick adult canines' mouths when they want them to upchuck them some dinner.

I remember my Cocker spaniel never really was a kisser unless he was feeling really silly and wanted to pester you with kisses, and then dear god help you, you had to hide from him. and when we found out he was dying he licked my face.
