TechnoPagan -> Is this part of a scam or phishing? (8/19/2009 10:17:37 AM)

Lately I've gotten messages here from women in other countries who want to chat with me, but on msn or yahoo, not here on CL. Anyone run into problems with this? Anyone prefer chatting on msn or yahoo, let me know if there is a reason and I'm just being paranoid.[sm=abducted.gif]

Thanks

TechnoPagan

You are not that interesting a fellow, believe me, that people from all over the world want to chat with you, they want to phish your addy so they can attack it.

Yeah, but if he chats via yahoo, and you get his addy and then his nic he might have Microsoft Wallet (remember that piece of shit)?

Now everyone be honest, who filled that out?  Were you financially dominated?

It's a scam. Don't click on any links they send you and don't accept to add them to your friends list or you'll end up with a virus.

techno,

yes it happens alot from the African nations, I cannot figure out why CM does not set up some sort of filter to stop it.
How about that Mod11?

I don't know....either there are a lot of people here that are being overly paranoid, or I have been extremely lucky. Using Yahoo Messenger I chat nearly every day with people from nearly every continent and area including Africa, Asia and Europe as well as N. America. I've been doing so for years. Never a virus. However some of the people are right...some of links they send you could hold viruses. And if they want you to sign up at some site using your credit card....Don't do it even if they tell you it is free and they are only using the card as age verification. Yahoo Messenger is a LOT better than the c-chat with more options for sending and receiveing files and things like zync which is a lot of fun. From my own experience I'd say go for it. Just use caution with their links etc.

It's too widespread to filter. They will use email addresses that they phish from other emails to disguise themselves.

In the past I received emails from my own email address from someone claiming to be in Nigeria or China.
