The last time I ranted about computers the thread got pulled. I was not warned but I suspect there was just too much profanity in it. I offered those who did not have solutions to share to join the rant, but I guess it was just too much.

This time I dunno if it was the internet got a cosmic ray or whatever, but I typed for a long time and then proofed it, which isn't quite proof because I do miss a few things, but this is my time.

I hit send then something encountered an error, probably my own friggin browser. I discovered a workaround for this inefficient asshole based software called Windows.

When you have composed a longish post, right click the text and hit select all and the text will all blue up, or somehow indicate that it is selected no matter what your color scheme. Then hit Ctrl+V, THEN AND ONLY THEN hit send.

I forgot to do this and wasted at least a half an hour of my time, the only irreplaceable resource.

And just a helpful hint, newbies on PCs maight think yellow text on white is cool, but do not realize the it is too hard to read, well just right click it and hit select all. It will make it readable.

Son of a bitch. Half an hour at least, wait, looking at the clock it was more like an hour by the time I proofed it. DAMMIT.

Anyway, words to the wise, select all, and if it is a post you are about to send Ctrl+C and THEN hit send. If something happens just get back here and then hit Ctrl+V and it should all reappear.

Just a Termy public service announcement, which I thought I would mention again because I just failed to take my own advice. Dammit.

Like I said; Son of a bitch !

I just click on the hide button. That saves me a lot of bother. I did so yesterday when someone made a very long post in small, blue, cursive font.

FR, in the first instance I meant Ctrl+C

Edited to add, I just found out it did actually send the post, so the problem was most likely in the confirmation process or something.

End of this particular rant for me right now, but if y'all would like to join in I got plenty. I just have to spread it a bit. CM can't take it all in one bite.

I have also been going along typoing and all the sudden all the text disappears. I believe it is my hand hitting the Ctrl key and a certain letter I think deletes it all. This happens on many fora. Now that's really agravating !

Geez, Term.

That's rule one in using computers, right after how to turn it on--save often.

Btw, when's the last time you backed up your computer?

Just saying...

If i don't want to key something over -
ctrl-A to highlight
ctrl-C to copy
then click OK to send.

Then if i lose it i can paste it back and try again.

On long posts - i compose them in a word processor to take advantage of formatting. spelling and grammer check.  If i get interrupted i can save it and come back to it later.

Then i paste it into the box on CM and click OK.

FR, after read thru

Also, for longer compositions I find it helpful to switch over to a text processing program, the simpler the better -- I use the barebones TextEdit program on my Mac, mostly, tho' I also make use of GoogleDocs to do a certain amount of my word processing . . . . . . Can save & all that, & when it's ready to be posted I copy & paste into the CM message box . . . . .
