pahunkboy -> crime watch- 2009 (8/22/2009 9:03:51 AM)

Early in the summer, I thought this town was done.

Finished.

3 gangs brawled is as many weeks- early on.  I thought 3 years and the place is done.

I thought it was going to be a bleak summer.    Empty houses now have people moving in- families out and about.  Not perfect- but no fear.

I am pretty random when I do my rounds.  Not predictable.    This year- tho- I am less intrusive.   (it takes some experience to go with local custom)

Anyhow- I am pleasantly surprised that we have fended off the gang element.     At least for now.

:-)

But PaHunk, to be a true Alpha male you have to go out and hunt the predators.

LMAO!

A big reason is it gets me out of the house on my mountain bike.

I wish I was the bad azz tough guy- the alpha male.

But it is the collection of people who are willing to put the garb on and be seen in town.

Early in the summer- I was grilled for like 10 minutes by some gang scouters.   Local judges love to convict.   So- yeah- a guy can be as bad as he wants - but the local grid- wont hear of it.

I would be a rich man if I came to a small town sooner- rather then sink my life savings into Chicago.
:-)

It isn't that we are so stealth- it is just that it is easier for thugs to prey on the next town down the road.  :-)

When I hear the loud neighbors- I think- it is a blessing- people go outside.  Not hide inside afraid of gun fire.

Believe you- me- there is an element from Jersey/Philly/NYC- that looks for happy drug dealing grounds to set up and make money.

I still would love to move to the country.

But- in the meantime- it is nice to know that the summer was not the disaster that many thought it would be (here)

labor day is typically the end of the season.    I can tell there is a difference- there isnt the nomads loitering with cell phones downtown.

Maybe they are in the hamptons for summer break.  ;-0 lol

We get more drug crime when NYC has a crackdown. The dealers drive up the Thruway getting off at the various exits, and the parking lots closest to the Thruway are where they meet and steal from each other. They found some guy in an uninspected car, pulled him over, and found $40,000 cash.

Interesting.

The sad thing is- people DO move here from urban areas wanting a better life.  We welcome them- as long as they dont try to change us.  (I ran into friction myself on that)

So- it can make it hard for the others who want to just live life.

I don't know the totality of how we abated things for this summer.  Maybe it was random.  But then maybe not.

I am sure word got out- that we actually HAVE a crime watch.   That there are people in it.  Not just signs and stickers.

A place can go bad fast.

So- I think we are good for longer then the 3 years- that I thought early in the summer.

I love it when a slicker gets pissed off and goes "home" and tells everyone how bad the hicks are....  lol.

:-)

One day at a time I suppose.

PaHunk, you don't have to be "bad" but you do have to be "sneaky" when you're hunting gangmembers.
Show him a picture, "have you seen ths guy", he looks, you it him on the head with a hammer and walk away.

The first year- I think I had too much of an ego.   I also was sloppy on  bike laws.

People- who are quietly enjoying their yard- don't want to be harassed, pestered.  So- there is a way to swing thru with out being intrusive...

The point of it is to notice thug type of activity...to be seen.
Not to be confrontational.     I will say hello- to avoid the cat calls....

So it is abit of a puzzle to get out- notice the thugs- but not pester the people who are minding their own business.

..I should get more exercise- the bike is a good way to do so.

Oddly- I am close to the only member in this ward.  But the trash tends to keep to the north side. As long as it does great.   If ny block goes the whole town is over.   It is sort of the bell weather.

The bulk of the locals know we use our jails.  But the drifters that pass thru don't.       Anyhow- it is nice to have blocked things for the time being.    I hope it doesnt get to the point- where I would be afraid to do it.      Williamsport and Harrisburg have alot of problems- and that too migrates if it can...

PaHunk, get a can of spraypaint and spray one gang's symbols on the others "territory" and vice versa.
Things like "the hammerheads are pussys" etc. Have some fun with it!

LOL.   There isnt too much of it around here.  Mostly on train cars when a train comes thru.

When I lived in Chicago- they kept putting graphitti on my house.  One is to simply paint over it.  No matter how often it comes back.

Williamsport was once a very nice place to live.    Some of that is wrecked now due to drugs.

A former mayor set up the place as a drug rehab destination.   ARGH!   A huge mistake.   Any place can get sort of bad.  I guess I am emotional over it as I lost everything I worked for- due to the neighborhood sliding down.  (inner city Chicago in the 80s)

So- live and learn.  :-)
