HA! Not bdsm related

If you had to stay awake for 24 hours, what kinds of things would you do to maintain your wake state? I myself am having a difficult time especially since I wasted yesterday not getting as much sleep as I should have due to worrying about how I was going to make it through today.

I nodded off earlier and probably would have slept for an hour or more, had my daughter not called me just minutes into my oasis called sleep. Oh and why do I need to stay awake? I'm scheduled for a sleep deprived EEG tomorrow morning. Normally, I don't have a problem staying awake into the wee hours, but all I want now is some sleep.

Go for a brisk bide ride.

Then scrub and wax the floors.

Two words......Cold Showers!

more serious....keep your mind active and keep changing your mental focus every 30-60 minutes with something different to concentrate on. The more active the mind is, the more alert you will stay. Avoid reading.

I'm a semi-insomniac, so I run into certain issues from staying awake too long/it's just too late to bother sleeping.  Anything interactive works for Me.  Chatting, computer games, talking on the phone, etc.  If My mind isn't engaged, like watching tv, it's over.  The running gag in this house is that if I'm 'going to watch tv' it's just a code that means I'm going to take a nap.

I might try the cold shower as well as the other suggestions. Thanks

I'll assume you are looking to avoid the obvious caffeine related assistants. What I would do would be to go for a walk, especially if the weather outside is a little on the cooler side. Then cleaning around the house, or some other busywork that keeps you active and moving would be best. The more you rest and sit still the more likely you are to doze.

I too tend to be a bit of an insomniac, that's what makes this whole thing so much more difficult. I need those little naps to keep my sanity. LOL. I'm steering clear of my pile of books, I've played so many pc games, but will play a few more as the night passes. That's too funny about your tv code.

Think later I'll see what's on that tv show with the titles most amazing, most shocking, when animals attack, cars flip over, dummiest crimminals, etc. Then, maybe I'll put my headphones on at some point and blast my cd's.

DV's addition made Me think of those little five hour engery shots.  They work great for Me when I'm dragging a bit.

Unfortunately, I can't take any substances, including caffinated drinks, that would keep me awake. Talk about torture.

That reminds me I do have a couple more hours left where I actually can have a coffee or tea.

Well at least its not as bad as the colonoscopy prep I went through last week. LOL and will have to repeat barium style next week. gawwwwwwwwwwd.

I know TMI. Hey! I'm sleep deprived, not thinking straight. Got to share the pain.

If you are with it enough and have the endurance for such places, try a 24 hour store that you can browse for a few hours, or even such a restaurant. You don't have to order the leaded stuff and you don't have to have some huge meal, but it is almost like fooling your body into believing it is really time to be doing all those things. I have had such tests, so I feel your pain! Good luck!

Thank you for the good wishes. Had to give up driving, one of the reasons for the testing, otherwise I like that suggestion of going to the 24 hour store, shopping would have most certainly keep me awake.

If nothing else, try to treat the hours like their opposite pm/am counterparts. At midnight, have lunch, stuff like that. Anything to fool the body into thinking you are "supposed" to be awake.

Avoid reading to not sleep? LOL.

I read to stay awake... but that is just me.

Doodle. Lots. and Lots.

Get a really big piece of paper and doodle. Break out the crayons, markers, pens, pencils, colored pencils... whatever. MAKE SOME ART!

I'm going to eat some protein, and if that doesn't work, i will then nod off for just 3 minutes. 3 freakin minutes shouldn't hurt the test right? I'm going to set the timer for exactly 3 minutes

Still awake. I think I'm the only freakin person in the (excluding wankers), in the USoffrickenA awake on this board. Nope didn't take the 3 minute nap. I have three hours till I jump in the shower to prepare to leave, so I'm doing good. Think if I check in here and continue talking to myself on these boards, that might do the trick.

Just don't look at the sofa, don't do it. I hear some pepperoni calling my name.

Coffee, lots of strong thick coffee.
Writing keeps me awake as well.
I NEVER watch a movie to stay awake b/c 10 minutes into it I would be sound asleep.

Edited to add: Naw your not the only one besides wankers who is awake. Me I'm awake worrying about a friend who left to put out a fire. lol Don't think I am going to sleep until he calls and says he is ok.
