Sanity -> RE: Attack on Obama riles Glenn Beck's advertisers (8/25/2009 6:36:58 PM)

I hate long teary goodbyes so consider it done. I never got much out of the relationshp anyway.

Regarding the big O, I joke around a lot but he's a bad cookie, from a batch of bad cookies, and he's driving this country straight down a shit hole. You name it and it's likely going to hell.

And I'm divided between, he's doing it on purpose and he's just a pathetic moron being used by Soros & Co.

I still haven't made up my mind on that one, but either way he's making poor decions. He's the best bad president we've ever had because he's the gang that can't shoot straight, all by himself.

I mean no ill will to you though, happy trails.

When ones core beliefs are threatened it is often reasonable to invent a conspiracy theory rather than drop such a belief.

Rufus: He still digs humanity, but it bothers Him to see the shit that gets carried out in His name - wars, bigotry, televangelism. But especially the factioning of all the religions. He said humanity took a good idea and, like always, built a belief structure on it.
Bethany: Having beliefs isn't good?
Rufus: I think it's better to have ideas. You can change an idea. Changing a belief is trickier. Life should malleable and progressive; working from idea to idea permits that. Beliefs anchor you to certain points and limit growth; new ideas can't generate. Life becomes stagnant.

Sanity, the term "czar" is  just a figure of speech. They don't ride in sleighs and throw peasant children to the wolves. I'm almost positive of that.

Wow, the Color of Change spokesman is a fucking liar...Who would have thunk it?

Wow..you cite as a reliable news source an ultra right wing website that makes foxnews.com look like the socialist party daily by comparison. Who would have thunk it?

Prove the source wrong, if you can.

Can't refute the post, so attack the source....Typical.

I seem to have heard that constantly for several years, Mnot.

There are always two standards, and its fun to watch them bring out their team mascot when you refuse to live by their sudden arbitrary rule changes. [sm=lol.gif]

There is always a double standard and both parties are guilty of it. Let's take a look at some of the more common ones.

A judge that rules in a way with which you argree = A sound interpeter of the law
A judge that rules in a way with which you disagree = An activist judge trying to legislate from the bench.

People you disagree with screaming, yelling and generally disrupting any possible rational discussion of an issue = Obstructionist, anti-american, obstructionists
People you agree with screaming, yelling and generally disrupting any possible ration discussion of an issue = Patriots exercising their free speech rights to justifiably show dissent.

A news story showing a politician you don't agree with cheaing on his wife = Fine journalism showing the lack of moral fiber and trusworthiness in an elected official
A news story showing a politician you agree with cheating on his wife = An unforgivable intrusion on the private life of an elected official

A news report that supports one's opinion= Fine journalism demonstrating the facts of the matter in question
A news report that does not support one's opinion = An attempt by a biased media to fool the people into believing a pack of lies.

The only thing more hypocritical then doing this is claiming the other side is the only one who does.

You know, Sanity, that could be said about "true believers" everywhere, regardless of what belief motif they stamp on their foreheads. In listening to you on many occasions, there is that sense that perhaps -you- are a "true believer" as well. I know that I am on some issues, and acknowledge that I have a pretty distinct framework of biases (though I do try to remain open to contrary evidence, even when it rankles at first).

Sanity, I've seen you, with my own eyes, refuse to accept valid evidence when it contradicted your beliefs -- so I'd stand far away from the panes of your glass house while busy throwing stones at others.

You've got a trillion dollars being spent on wars with no end in sight, 10% unemployment and rising, a guaranteed 'best case' $9 Trillion deficit; and a talking head is concerning?

If its not an attempt at distraction its a sad representation of focus. Almost as bad as talking about Bush, Clinton, Carter or, if you are Nancy Pelosi, "disrupting Nazi protesters".

I sure Mr Beck is happy for the press coverage - its insured his bonus and pay raise. Kinda counter productive - like a 'Stimulus' that stimulated paying the failure executives their bonuses, and did nothing to stop one foreclosure or prevent one lay off.

Yup - unless another Michael Jackson dies - we'll be seeing more of these 'serious' issues brought to the forefront. Not much 'bread' to distribute but plenty of 'circus' acts to keep the masses distracted.

BTW - Who is Glen Beck and why is he important?

Good fucking grief..................[sm=beatdeadhorse.gif]

Big Beck: Goes over 3 million viewers, beats O’Reilly in demo: Cable News Ratings for Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Though a little scandal might alienate advertisers, it’s pure ratings gold. Last night Glenn Beck had over 3 million viewers at 5pm, second only to O’Reilly for the night. But, Beck had more 25-54 viewers than O’Reilly (888K to 876K). I don’t watch or really even care about the cable news wars, but still…wow. Even though Beck airs before primetime, when there are fewer people watching TV, he had the most 25-54 viewers in the cable news world for the night.

Wow, getting a lot of publicity to the guy got people to tune and see what he is all about....Think about the tens of millions of people harrangued at work by the "office liberal" over what a Nazi Beck is, decided to take a look. Who could have imagined such a bizzare and unexpected turn of events.

Liberals just aren't any good at this stuff

Which would be funny except they are running our foriegn policy.....

Revenue comes from the advertisers not the number of viewers.

If the advertisers are abandoning the show the number of viewers is irrelevant unless new advertisers fill the void.

Partially correct.

Size of the audience is also a factor.

So, since he does have companies who do, or continue to buy airtime, and they are reaching a bigger audience, they are getting more "bang for their buck".

And, as his audience increases, he can start to charge more.

A win for Beck, it looks like to me.

"Don't throw me into that briar patch!"

I almost used the Briar Patch line, but figured I would get called a racist....
