Texting While Driving Video - 8/25/2009 5:27:34 PM

Status: offline 		I just watched this on Youtube. It's very realistic and hopefully will drive the point home to those who need a wake up call. Although quite graphic it clearly is not sensationalizing anything but instead being very blunt.

It's a shame that something like this isn't aired daily on TV around the world. Granted the PSA was staged, but the reality of this happens everyday, and you can only wonder how many innocent people pay for the arrogance of one moron. On the same thought, and only slightly less dangerous are the people who feel they need to talk on their cell phones constantly while driving in traffic (particularly at rush hour).

I have a hunch it will be. It's already on NBC Nightly News. It's getting major attention. It *should* be required viewing in driver's ed class.

Status: offline 		Last week a friend of mine ass ended someone while texting.  I have a standing rule, which I enforce, my girls are not allowed to talk or text me while driving.

They showed drunk driving films back in the days before cell phone and drunk driving deaths ensued. The drunk driving situation did not begin to abate until law enforcement and the courts started to get tougher on it. That's the same way the cell phone thing will play out. You can show that PSA all day long but until the non-crash consequences become stiff enough people won't change.

Interestingly enough, the folks I've encountered on my motorbike who are texting away as they drive have mostly been businessmen. Maybe it's a Houston thing. I don't mess with this. Being on a motorbike takes both hands. If they call or message while I'm on the bike, they get to wait until I get to my next planned stop.

(It was a funny video, though... as was the "Women, know your limits" one... good for a laugh, for sure).

Agreed. I don't even have my mobile on while biking, even though I have a headset that supports it.
