ShaharThorne -> I GOT IT!!! (8/25/2009 5:35:52 PM)

The state of Texas and Social Security has declared me disabled due to the bipolar.  There has been enough evidence that the disease is deteriorating my lifestyle (I blame the lack of flogging personally).  I am at my daughter's place, who is being a typical teenager (using band practice to avoid me).

Meanwhile I did not know that foxfire has spell check built in.  Maybe I should break down and install it on the Compaq and my new computer for Christmas.

Until I get back to my mundane household and the pos of a computer...

TTFN (Yes I am a bit giddy....I blame the meds I took earlier...)

You can get disability from being bipolar now? Interesting.

Hmm, I wasn't aware you could get it that way. Ironic considering my stepdad has severe injuries from getting blown off a mountain back in 94 and they won't put him on disability.

I think the saying should be changed to 'the government works in mysterious ways'

and I hate spellcheckers...they always give me problems when i'm trying to write something in German.

I have the mixed episodes type of bipolar, which means I get maniac and depressed at the same time.  my meds tend to knock me out during the daytime, affecting my ability to work and with my history of customer service, an angry customer can trigger an episode of pissing me off.  no one wants to hire anyone with a mental illness, despite  the ADA.  It is just easier to stay home, stoned on my medicines and not hurting anyone if and when I get a trigger to set off (I kill stuffed Barney and Elmos for angry outbursts).  At least I am off the streets, getting the care I need and now I can get treatment for my fibromyalgia since I qualify for Medicaid.

Each case is different with applying for SSI and SSDI.  At least 85% of cases are denied on the first go-around of applications.  I had to endure 2 appeals and over a year of waiting until I got my hearing.  My father got his on the first go-round due to having a second stroke and it affected his ability to continue nursing.  Each circumstance is different to Social Security, depending on the injury or disease.

Depending on the mental illness and how hard you go at it you really can.  I've met a couple people who gotten disability for bipolar & for borderline personality disorder.

Congrats ShaharThorne!  Glad to hear you got what you were needing.  Wish most people who were really needful got it when they need it.  Sometimes I think so much of it has to do with knowing how to deal with the system and it can be disheartening for a lot of folks.  Glad everything worked out.
