You know she has a soviet background, right; Blacksword? (Olena, I know you aren't Russian, don't start tapdancing like a goosyenitzha (best I can spell catapiller)) on me but that is common way to think of it over there, assist and absorb.

You cannot collect from someone you killed. We owe China too much money for them to “go after us”. More liklyhood they will just buy us then invade us.

You say that like it's an Ok option. [:D]  I guess  as soon as a baby leaves their mother they will be slapping a property of China sticker on it's ass.

No it is no ok, but I am also not one to believe in the sky is falling. Why would China invade us? We have guns in every home and nuclear weapons.

As I butchered in my post and Ron wrote, they already own a lot of America anyway. Invading us would destroy their property and cause their economy to take a hit.

Sorry but the sky is falling mentality of countries wanting to see us crumble therefore will declare some sort of conventional war on us is not rooted in reality of these modern times. Plus i do not believe China desires us to crumble.

Being Ukrainian I have seen it first hand and we should learn from Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan with the Russians, world domination is too hard, costly and just does not work.

Maybe not outright destroy us. All they have to do is trip us up long enough for them to surge ahead.

They don't have to invade. Immediately cease buying our debt? [sm=blasted.gif]    Demand repayment of our debt in real money or real estate?  [sm=blasted.gif]    Ration those rare earth elements?

I don't think Russia or China has lost that lust for world domination.

We may be the only remaining Super-power but as we decline or rust. And they gain. Somebody will overtake us. Nothing last forever. Maybe we can prolong our remaining lead if we can get back to what got us to our status to begin with.

Russia I might agree with, China I don't think has a world domination gene (in the usual sense) in them.

As to the rest, that's what happens when you play king of the hill.

Fast Reply -

So how long until a movement for an independent Mongolia and international pressure starts? Maybe we will be looking for WMD's in the region?

It isn't to hard to see how China could hold the World by the balls if it wants. Withholding these metals could destroy a countries economy. And it would be worse if say China and Russia decide to hook-up. With Russia's oil and gas and China's metals there might be a serious problem in the future.

If we were worried about China having power, we might have thought about the economic impact during the 80s of going from the largest creditor nation in the world to the largest debtor nation in the world in just eight years, with 25% of our assets owned abroad.

Since then, it's only gotten worse--China holds the majority of our debt, and is getting uneasy about extending anymore.

We need to learn to live in the real world, not Fantasy Land. Until then, nations like China and India who do are going to continue to gain control.

You might be right on China. The have tended to stay in their own neighborhood. But China and Russia have had strong ties in the past and I think they will renew them in the future. Russia has not forgotten It's imperial history. Might end up bringing China along for the ride. If the chance comes.

That switch right there was the thing that put us on this path. Going from actual wealth to large debt. But to hear the talking heads tell it, it's good for the country. It is almost never good for an individual to carry massive amounts of debt. I don't see how it can be any different for our country. Either collapse or financial enslavement are at the end of this road if we can't turn back.
