I am a native Californian and I am sure this applies to other places too with heavy traffic but..."You know you live in California when you measure how far away something is not in miles but in time it takes to get somewhere"..ha ha

I am not a Californian, but I have been there. This is what stuck in my mind.

You know you live in California when you can drive for 8 hours in one general direction, and not feel like you've left town.

(from a person that can get out into the country, as in REAL rural country, from any metropolis within a couple hundred miles, within an hour or less....usually much less)

When you live in California there's no such thing as "just an earthquake"

I suppose it depends on where you were at when the quake hit, but lemme tell ya, it was no small thing in my life.

I could say much more about California. I was born and raised there. Most of my family lives there.

You know you live in California when you don't have room to turn and scratch your own ass! Too many people! I'd say more but I don't want to offend... so THE END [:)]

LOL  One night, there was an earthquake about 3am & Mr. Cat & I both woke up & glared at each other for being too rambunctious.  Then I realized what it was & rolled over & went back to sleep.  The next morning, there was another one while I was riding the bus to work.  I just thought that people were getting on or off the bus.  Then I realized that we were stopped at a light.

Imagine my surprise when I got to work & all these people kept complaining about not getting enough sleep.  I had completely forgotten the earthquake & was shocked to find out that people will lie there awake after one in the middle of the night!!

I be a native, but after Loma Prieta and Northdridge, I'm a little gun shy.
