When you watch people drive in by the truckfull and as soon as there is a quake, you watch them move right on out.

I hope there is enough Californians to keep this thread going, when I was younger my father said we were going on holiday to California turns out he was talking about the one in East Anglia.

Most disappointing holiday ever.

Yes, but were you 8 months pregnant and have to pull a 15 month old toddler out from a falling pile of text books and heavy crockery?

I grew up in California, first in Hollister then the Bay Area. Been through too many earthquakes to count, let alone remember them all.

The jerky quakes are more scary. The rolling one's can be beautiful. The land just rolls in ripples or like small wave's. Watching open land roll is a trip.

Of course, you know you're in California when you've had fires and then rain and somebodies house is falling down a hill.

I grew up in Seattle & learned that early in my life, that "Oh, just an earthquake". Loma Prieta was my second 7+ quake. I don't remember the first one as I was a toddler. I've never been afraid of them. I was in San Francisco when the pretty big one hit in 89. Walked the 5+ miles home from work since the electric busses weren't running. When I got to the top of the hill on Geary out by the beach, I turned around & watched the Marina burn. Still don't scare me.

With apologies to you, Lockit; I feel your pain . . . . . . Even podunk little towns like the one I live in have multiple Asian & Mexican choices, all cheap, all at least adequate . . .. . .

& while the cars might get built in Detroit (or wherever), they get driven here. This is the land that cars built, for those so inclined . . . . . .

I have lived in California for the entire parts of my life I have been old enough to remember,, and I have only ever experienced an earth quake once in my life I can remember.

You know you live in California when you buy property in the desert thinking one day it will be beachfront property and then a quake comes and you find out you're on the wrong side of the seven foot crack in your yard and you would have fallen into the ocean rather than watched it from your front window.
