bdspirit -> A Hidden Play Space in a Vanilla World (8/26/2009 11:58:20 AM)

Sitting here contemplating how much this unique BDSM dynamic in my relationship turns my partner and I on and how to get more use out of those lovely toys and furniture I've either constructed or accumulated and which at the moment lie disassembled or hidden in various nooks and crannies in the house.  I would love to build out a dedicated  play space in our home for us to use without having to spend 30 minutes breaking out all the "stuff" - especially given that sometimes 30 minutes is all the time we have.  Like others, our challenge is that home is still populated teenage child, various guests and lots of visitors. Living in Atlanta, we've got allot of space with parts of the basement not finished or used.

I guess I'm contemplating things like building a secret room complete with hidden access (though the actual construction is going to have a few wondering).  Just interested if anyone has figured this out - how'd you manage it and did you ultimately enjoy a dedicated play space as much as you thought you would.  As an aside, at the moment it's just the two of us as we haven't found friends that share our interest.

Many thanks,
Bound

I know  in the UK one of the latest odd things showing up is storage blocks, a small room in a huge building to store your stuff in. I have heard of at least one person setting up all their play equipment in one of those and using it as a private dungeon.

Good luck with the secret room though, you'll have many people envious!

Atlanta and you have not found scene folk there?  THERE ARE MANY.  Have you tried going in to FetLife.com and searching by Atlanta?  You are certainly NOT alone!

See http://www.hideadoor.com/ for the door. It's not that expensive as part of a remodeling job.

Mine is in that attic of our storage house.  While I know most people don't have the luxury of a second house just for storage, any 'storage' area can be converted.  As for explaining it's use, I call it my "Sewing Room".  It's my 'place to get away' from my husband, son and almost all male parade of people in my home.  Get creative with your explanations about your 'private room'.  If you don't have a hobby, invent one that needs some space.  Work out much?  Put some equipment in there and actually use it for that now and then.  Then, get duel usage out of weight racks as suspension bars.

While we all hate lying to our loved ones, some times a bit of creative diversion is needed.  Luckily, I'm a costumer and hubby runs a haunted house... therefore anything "odd" that people find is easily explained.  I truely think everyone in the BDSM community should start volunteering for the local charity haunted house.  Makes life SO much easier to explain those odd bits and things lying about.

The neighbors are going to wonder why there's been a PODS container in the driveway for 2 years now.......[8|]

Ours were in two rooms of a large basement. My teenager was told that someone was hiring out some storage space and the keys were very well hidden.
We also sound proofed the rooms.

Heh. And there's nothing quite like hearing the sound of that roll up steel door to get one in the mood...

That absolutely radiates awesomeness [:)] I've always wanted a secret passageway. And a car with missile launchers, but that doesn't have a lot of BDSM applications.

Arkinnian -> RE: A Hidden Play Space in a Vanilla World (9/2/2009 5:04:58 PM)

I don't know. Missile launcher cars isn't my cup of tea in particular, but this is the Internet. Nothing exists that is not a fetish.

Although now that I think about it, I do get a certain thrill from watching things blow up...

Great suggestions and insights.  Mshoney, I'll have to look around though might take a little convincing for my lovely partner - she's a bit on the private side but hope springs eternal.  Have to say that roughleather's hidden door has really got me thinking - that could really be perfect.  In terms of gags - well I'm guessing we'll just have to keep experimenting until we get it right ...

Now I'm off to the basement, tape measure in hand.  Thanks again.

ketsueki -> RE: A Hidden Play Space in a Vanilla World (9/9/2009 3:27:07 PM)

Personally the play space is hidden all over the house most of our furniture is old fashioned heavy wood and I have plans for a replacement diningroom table soon that has a topwhere you pull 4 pins and filp the top for a bondage table. And i got some plans for other things that can be hidden around the house. You cant go anywhere in the house without being within a few steps of some piece that can be used for bondage already lol. But it helps we dont have kids and the nieghbors avoid us freaks lol.

BohemianGoddess -> RE: A Hidden Play Space in a Vanilla World (9/9/2009 5:31:19 PM)

Roughleather, thanks so much for the info on the hidden door, you got me thinkin now.

sweetcheeksbbw -> RE: A Hidden Play Space in a Vanilla World (9/14/2009 11:08:02 AM)

You could convert a walk-in closet in your Master bedroom into your play room.
I'd much rather have a dedicated play area.

BTW...I adore the hidden door link.  My mind is already thinking about how I could use it!
