i don't utilize a special technique, but i have noticed that mood, head space, and the connection i feel with the person administering it are huge factors. there are some that never inspire a deep need or desire for heightened amounts of sufferance. others have me clamoring for more and begging them to comply. this wasn't always the case, but i have found that with age my tolerance has amplified.

I've used the some of the same pain tolerance techniques in non-kinky situations (at the doctor's or dentist's office, during martial arts sparring, etc.). Deeper breathing, relaxation, etc. can make a big difference. Specifically for BDSM, you may find you can take more thud, or more sting. Mixing the two together can help you handle more of the one you don't like as much, and warmup is crucial. Different toys make a huge difference! For example, I usually don't like hard sting, but I adore singletails and can handle whippier canes if they're mixed with a thuddy one or with some other sensation. Sensory deprivation while the toys are being laid out at the beginning of the scene makes me start flying before he even touches me, so I can take more right away, and warmup is a lot easier/quicker. Other people have a similar effect from bondage, or having their hair pulled, or their collar put on, or other "triggers."

There are a few things I do.

In no particular order:

1. Ignore, ignore, ignore
2. Sink in to the pain. This means finding exactly where it hurts most and being as aware as possible of it. Somehow, this lessens the pain.
3. Move some pain. If I'm being hit repeatedly on the back of my left thigh, I mentally picture taking some of the pain, like a third to half of it, and moving it to the back of my right thigh. Then my left thigh can take more.

For me when the pain is really instense its about finding something to focus on and controlling my breathing. I will often find a spot on the wall or an object to look at and practice what most consider lamaze breathing. It works for me and allows me to take alot of pain and to enjoy it for what it is and not get caught up in the initual sting.
