People who are deliberately ignorant. Oh and a huge peeve of mine is women who act dumb to be popular...nothing pisses me off more.

Sunnyfey -> RE: whats your biggest pet peeve? (8/28/2009 11:53:06 PM)

people who chew with their mouths open. Nothing makes me want to hit someone faster.

And someone stepping on my boots and NOT saying sorry.....

I AM a bootblack after all.

The use of the word "opinion" as a backdoor to having to substantiate the intellectual merit of a position one is debating.

Stupid drivers.  This can be any number of things, but probably the biggest one are drivers who can't use turn signals.  It's not exactly that hard to hit a switch next to the steering wheel, and better yet, the stupid thing will even turn itself off if you make a very wide turn.  So why do so many people act as if those things are poisonous to touch?

By far, my biggest pet peeve is when anybody accuses me of being dishonest... my next-biggest pet peeve is when anybody does the same to somebody that I feel is being honest.

I despise liars.

Too many to just pick one.

People who are unaware of their surroundings...

Like waking down a crowded street and someone stops in the middle of it to stare at something and everyone else has to walk round them while the person who is stood staring is completely oblivious to it.

Like someone on a morning train who is playing music on his/her mobile phone while others are reading or something and really don't want to hear their music.

There isn't much that pisses me off.......but I can't abide that total disregard for the people around them.

Right there with you, Sunny!

On the stupid driver thing, I'll have to defend the lack of turn signals in certain circumstances. On a California freeway, a turn signal is usually interpreted as "Please speed up so I can't change lanes". Sometimes a "sneak attack" is the better bet... unless you are one of those assholes who speeds past 2 miles of "merge" signs and tries to cut in at the last second. That said, there is no excuse for not using signals when you are actually making a turn.

People who talk with their mouths full of food.

And the insistence that mayo is good on everything... I HATE MAYO!

Tell me about it!

This is why I avoid places like Oxford Street in Central London and supermarkets on Saturdays and prefer travelling by bus than using the Underground.

You can add people using their mobile phones while walking or driving or indeed travelling.

This is closely related to my pet peeve and that is people not thinking about what they are doing, using forethought or considering the consequences.

I live in London, a city visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists but it always seems that the dumbest questions are asked by people who live here.

A recent example is the guy who got on a bus at a bus stop some 100 yards from Battersea Dogs Home and asked 'Does this bus pass Battersea Dogs Home.' The bus driver told him that it did and pointed the building out to him through the window.

Or the woman at Euston railway station who asked 'How do I get to Manchester?'
Station clerk (trying to keep a straight face) 'By train'.

I don't have too many more but one of them is connected with living in London and how getting on a bus varies in some districts from queuing and waiting your turn to others where you all pile on with some people shoulder-barging their way onto the bus.

When I worked with the public, it was the people who would not get off their cell phones for the short time it took to perform a retail transaction. Once, when I told a woman I would be glad to help her when she finished her call, she stomped off, saying into her cell, "This woman won't wait on me because I'm on the phone!"

How about the many CLERKS who are on the cell phone throughout the transaction?

Of course, that is equally annoying and should not be tolerated by management. Where I worked, we were routinely "mystery shopped" (spied upon) and the supervisor's bonus depended on our scores, so being on the phone during a transaction would result in discipline. One reason why I am no longer in the retail sector of our business.
