playfulotter -> What are five things you always have in your refrigerator? (8/29/2009 1:59:00 PM)

I hope this topic hasn't been done before..but if it has it hasn't been recent as far as I can recall. I will start the ball rolling by saying that five things I always have in my refrigerator are:

bottled water, cilantro, blueberries, cheese and orange juice.

Garlic, preserves, mustard, relish, and bbq sauce.

My moms refrigerator was so jammed packed with cans of food and bottles of this and that and crap you couldn't find anything.

There isn't anything we ALWAYS have, it varries from grocery shopping trip to grocery shopping trip.

My door of my fridge has lots of condiments too and if i had more than five to list I would have to say a lot of those...I love that hot sauce sriracha but use it sparingly (especially good with eggs)...i am always buying weird Asian sauces at the grocery store and seeing what I like...Oh and I found out I liked pickled hot okra by buying a jar once but haven't bought it again...it was pretty good!

cupboards would be a better response for me, since there are things that are always here but never kept in the fridge.

extra virgin olive oil - several varieties. but always one for cooking and others for finishing
tellicherry black peppercorns
wine - several bottles in the wine fridge
intelligentsia coffee beans - usually a bag of the gold coast blend and a few others
valrhona chocolate - for baking and late night cravings

porcelaine

Eggs, a pitcher of sweet tea, apples, salad dressing, and onions. I have no idea exactly why, but at least I do like all those things.

Thanks for the reply porcelaine...I do keep expensive olive oil in the fridge sometimes to keep it fresher longer but it does get cloudy and thicker but returns to normal after a while out of the fridge..I always keep peppercorns in there too and certain other spices to make last longer and have more flavor!

Condiments seem to have sex and reproduce like crazy around here. We have 4 things of teriokee sauce and you can bet next grocery shopping trip she'll forget we have 4 and go out and buy more.  Pimento olives are the same way, have a bunch and every trip she'll buy one or two moreSame goes with other condiments, it's like she ran out once , so now she now goes over board on making sure we have enough. Truth is she don't even check to see if we have a bunch just goes and buys it anyway.

Thanks for the reply Musicmystery..yes..there is nothing like the recoil people do when opening a container or bag and having all that white and blue fuzz all over something that was forgotten for so long and now makes the item not recognizable at all!  What the heck did that used to be???? ha ha

PS..this is off topic but can someone tell me how to include in my responses what the other person wrote that I am responding to. I have never learned to do this...Thanks.
