mmm, i can see that,  but really, you and i wouldnt know each other if we passed in the street.  so resemblance or otherwise isnt really an issue i dont think - well, you might recognise me lol, but even if you did, would it matter.

ive just read his story, there are no names, the two people involved could be anyone from anywhere.  its a sweet story, i found myself smiling throughout it.  a gentle little excerpt and completely anonymous.

well, ive stepped up and offered.  i dont see what the big deal is frankly.  ill only give out the information i want to give out and if it helps him to write a book about the deeper emotional aspects of submission to help those on the fringes to recognise their feelings and needs, then isnt that a good thing.

Thank you for your offer, it is truly appreciated, I am looking forward to exploring wherever our conversations might lead us to.

and it is good to see somebody that actually understands what I am attempting to achieve here, I am no Steven King, I am not about to get rich doing this, for me it is about writing something that might have an impact on somebody, that might help somebody to see what they have been missing.

I am hoping that people will realise that I am genuinely looking to disseminate to a wider audience with this, and it isn't about making money or stealing ideas, I am talking about writing something that helps to further the communities reach, because writing is something I am bloody good at, and that is all I can bring to offer to the community.

And personally speaking, I would love the idea of being able to pick up a real book one day, browse through it, point to a story and say that that is my story. That it was my inspiration that put that there. Personally I think that would just be incredibly cool - and rather sexy too!

DomThoughts -> RE: Book Research (8/30/2009 10:05:24 AM)

Just so everyone knows I'm not hiding behind a new profile, this is my original profile - I am ExpresMyDelirium - if you have a read of it, you will hopefully see the similarity in interests between what I am looking for here and what I am looking to write about.

This is something I've had an interest in for a long time, it feels natural to be able to put some of those emotional experiences into some medium that can be shared.

Unfortunately, maestro, you can't use anything you read here for publication, read the rulez (that is actually the case on most boards - both for reasons of privacy, and because it is unethical to make money on other people's writings. Part of it is copyright - what anybody writes is their intellectual property, copyrighted by default, and you cannot use it unless you pay for it and receive a publication release. If the writer places it in the public domain (which by default cannot be done here) you cannot use it to make money with.

Secondly, nice that you have a blog, but in order for me to believe you are writing a book I'd have to have the publisher's name, publication target, and all that. bottom line, though, what you find here, solicited or otherwise, you cannot use.

I don't know if this is the situation here, but as an author, I -do- want to let people know that _MANY_ books are written "on spec"... which means you don't -have- any of the above bolded information, because you write the book -first-, then shop it around to potential publishers. In fact, for a first or second (or third, fourth or fifth if they're fiction) book, you most -always- have to write 'on spec' and finish the manuscript before anyone will even consider purchasing it.

Just because a person doesn't have a publisher yet, or a publication date, or whatever, doesn't mean they're -not- writing a book.

Also, if a particular story is changed sufficiently and it is made clear that it is fiction, OR an author's work is authorized through signature of a legal "release of permissions" (especially for non-fiction work where documentary-style information is presented), it is entirely possible to publish aspects of what he may learn here. If I were to offer a piece, I would want to see the finished product, though, to make sure that what I contributed was accurately represented or -clearly- delineated as fiction AND substantially re-written so that it would not be mistaken for my work, and I wouldn't sign off on permissions until the project was near completion (usually, the publisher has specific permission forms that would need to be signed in any case.)

Firstly, thank you for your comment about publishers, this is very much written 'on spec' I am excited by the learning curve I am hoping it will bring.

I'm not sure if there is a wire that has got crossed here somewhere, I am not looking for anyone to give me copies of their work for me to compile and publish. I have been writing for a number of years, the things I have written so far, (of which outside of BDSM number about 150 pieces) have been initiated simply by a conversation.

For example the one that is in my blog, it could have as easily come about by having a conversation about spanking, and someone saying that it is an interest for them, and from that conversation I take away enough information to build my own story around that (occasionally very narrow) framework, and turn out a finished story to it.

Now I am being honest here, and asking for those conversations, I want the people to talk to me knowing that I want a conversation, about what they might be interested in. to give the bones of something that I can turn into a piece of exciting and informative literature.

In that context I don't need permission in that context, because I'm *NOT* republishing other people's work, I am simply gaining inspiration from a conversation we might have.

Tantriqu -> RE: Book Research (8/30/2009 11:54:20 AM)

I'd suggest pay-for-play; if you're serious, offer contributors a cut. If you're profiting off their 'conversations'/ideas without compensation, enjoy explaining so to your publisher when an entertainment lawyer is on the other line.

As a fellow professional writer, if you'd like to bounce ideas around with me, feel free to contact me by PM.  I also did an editorial internship with BkMk Press, an independent publishing house, so I may be able to help you in that area also.

Exactly -- and as a work of fiction, inspiration can come from just about anywhere.

On a side note, if you feel so inclined, feel free to drop me a line on the other side. My pub specializes in SFF, but I've got a decade in 'the cogs', so I'd be happy to lend an ear.

Thank you. You saved me a lot of typing because I was reading through this thread about to respond with the same thing before I saw that you did it already. As a professional writer, I was immediately taken aback by the idea that someone would demand that information to believe someone is "writing" a book. I've written over a dozen of them, and I'm still trying to get some of that "proof" on a good number of them still.

ExpresMyDelirium -> RE: Book Research (9/2/2009 4:08:04 AM)

Just as a show of what I've been looking for with this thread, I was talking to someone who did respond from, and we had a fleeting conversations (about five lines in MSN) about first meetings, and the pressures involved in those.

From which I wrote the piece called 'blood' which is at http://expressmydelirium.blogspot.com/

Just to show its not about verbatim copying of other people's thoughts.

As a side note, and more the reason of posting this now, I want to write a piece on online only D/s, and would really like to talk to somebody with some experience of that.

Kind regards...
