No hijacking please - I did it once and learned my lesson.

The day health care reform will be passed or shot down is getting closer.  What is the feel from both sides if it will or will not get passed?  I am more interested in links, speeches, or material from those who have written on the story who are 'in the know'..  I am more interested in that than personal opinion.

Although there are a few DEMS who stand up proudly against reform I know there are 1-2 republicans who support it.  Everything I have read to date has simply told me the bill will be passed with little modification - regardless of the objections of republicans.  Am I wrong?  Rather than Fox News or some 'Democratic Underground Press" I'd rather hear about the 'opinions' of impartial people, ya right there is such a thing(LOL!)  But, I am sure you feel my drift?

Of course it will pass. Obama needs it  in whatever shape or form for political reasons. At this stage it does not really amount to reform as the old system will remain intact.
Here are some latest news:

Hi Esinn

If we are talking about feelings with no real need for facts then...I would say yes it will pass but not in the form we are seeing. There will be some modifications, not to accommodate Republicans in Congress, but to satisfy Democrats at home...If that makes sense to you.

I think that's pretty close.
Obama said last week that Illegal Aliens won't be included in it so it's more paletable to a lot more people.
Amazing that he'd "have" to make that statement in the first place!

I think it was always that way...but the republicans decided to say it wrong anyway...lol... There is some confusion because it does not exclude legal aliens. Otherwise if you are in this country legally...say a student or migrate worker I assume you can participate and be covered...Unless I have read it wrong... and I did read it...lol

Too bad.  You get my opinion anyway.

If everything you have been reading indicated it was going to pass, Esi, I'll strongly encourage you to expand the horizons of where you get your information.  This legislation is in serious trouble.

I have been running on a quiet assumption that this was going die between the House and Senate, if it got that far.  It was badly sold, and, for all the attacks and denials, Sarah Palin's "death panels" assessment stuck.

After reading this article in the news today, I'm not quite so sure.  President Obama is going to reaffirm his personal ownership of it in an address to the Nation, and both Houses of Congress next week.  I don't see this as a good move.  He could have survived the failure of Congress to pass the legislation, but he is placing his personal credibility into the pot when the Republicans have nothing to lose.  Once he gives that speech, once he makes it about him, either health care passes, or Obama is a lame-duck inside his first year in office.

With such a "must win" situation, I don't see a good outcome.

Getting a bipartisan bill from where we are now is going to mean letting the insurance companies and malpractice lawyers write it.  There are always enough completely corrupt people in Congress (both parties) to pass anything if they can be convinced the President will give them cover.

If the Democrats try to stay idealistically pure, and drive it through on superior numbers, it is lose-lose.  A:  The Dems "ram their ideas down all our throats" with a horrific backlash in the mid-terms, or, B: Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid discover they don't have the juice to convince the conservative and moderate Dems to join the communal suicide, and we have a lame-duck Congress to match our lame-duck President.

I don't think any of those outcomes are good for the country.  That comes before my joy in skewering the Democrats.

I say it will not pass. The senior citizens have major clout at the voting booth. If there are ANY cuts to medicare, which there  are in this bill, they will revolt.

I hope it is stopped in its present form.

The CEO of Mayo Clinic and others have continually said that by 2015 the US will be bankrupt because of the  costs of health care .  Maybe a depression caused by health care will clear everyone's thinking. Perhaps we can have Canada or the UK annex the US.

I know that Obamas Health Care Reform Plan is written on 1,000 pages.

It's funny how the majority of us voted on "CHANGE" when it's what most of us are afraid of the most. How is this going to effect me when I already have my plan figured out?

Eventually, HealthCare will have to change. Paying doctors and buying pills in the effort of immortality is just getting to damn expensive for either the patient, Uncle Sam, or both.
