I was asked this morning whether I had taken my meds yet. I had not. I usually take one or two vitamin C tablets with my yoghurt, but I had been up for only one hour, was not hungry and did not have any yoghurt in my room. It was one more hour before my guests left for the day and I had the opportunity to go to the supermarket, buy two litres of yoghurt, a roll of wheat biscuits and about a dozen thin slices of meat. That was about thirteen hours ago. Since then I have drank the yoghurt and have had at least four vitamin C tablets to go with it. So I was wondering whether anyone took their daily meds, whatever those are - like vitamin C, and whether there is a relationship with dominance, and also whether one is completely ignorant about the harm such meds may cause? (My dentist told me years ago that ingesting huge supplies of vitamin C may cause scurvy; that surprised me.)

I do not have any meds that I take everyday. Not even a vitamen. Although I have taken some ibuprofen today.

I chose other. I am a sub, and have meds, but rarely take them. I am on an NSAID, an antibiotic, and an anti-inflammatory eye drop. I need to get back into taking them, but the pills make me sick, and the eye drops make me blind. However, I am starting to notice the consequences of not taking them.

I dont have daily meds. Frequent sometimes,but I refuse to go back on daily ones for any reason because I wont let my body get trained to need something that way.

I found this an interesting post. What would you do if you needed to take them as preventative medication. An example of that is my eye medication. I use eye drops to keep the inflammation down in my eyes. If I don't use them, the edema comes back, the blood vessels come back, and I am in danger of needing surgery or going blind. So, do you find it worse to train your body, or face the consequences later? ( I am in no way trying to be argumentative; just hoping for your perspective. [:)] )

Vitamin C is not a medicine. It is a vitamin or supplement. You may want to look into the effects of megadoses of vitamin C on your body. It's not exactly unsafe, but may negate the helpful aspects.

Some supplements can be extremely dangerous. Having a background in biochemistry, I do consider vitamin C a medication - I sure hopes that it does what I hope it does, even if only a tiny bit.

I did take my medication which means in my case that I take 25mg amitriptylin about 2 hours before I go to bed which helps with my fibromyalgia (according to my GP that tablet numbns my nerves which means I get good sleep without ending up in pain, as before I took this medication I woke up ever 60-120 minutes my whole body stiff and the side I was lieing on in immense pain and the time it took to turn over wasn't any fun either due to the pain and due to the stiffness). Therefore most of the time I do take my tablet and am glad about that I finally found a GP who grasped what I was talking about. As a lovely unexpected side effect this dosis even helps me to be pretty much pain free 24/7, therefore I don't have anymore to put up with being about 300 days a year in pain (during daytime). However, I do not use it 100% regular as I can't. e.g. when I am at a nightshift I obviously can't take it, neither do I take it when I know I have to get up again in 5 hours time as that medication makes me damn (or should I say marvelously [:D]) sleepy as a side effect, ergo if I have a short period of sleep I am put at risk to oversleep with that tablet. Therefore on those occassions I don't take it and with skipping it sometimes my body is fine with it (of course it can lead to pain again during the next day at some point, but its bearable). However, in longterm, which means when I am finished with studying next year and hopefully leave england soon afterwards, then I want to get off the medication asap and work more active on other aspects which help to improve the symptoms as I don't want to be dependent on those tablets the rest of my life (my GP is already waiting for me to get back to him to increase the dosis but as long as possible I avoid it as increasing it means it will get harder to get off it later, therefore I just try to do little improvements in my daily routine to be able to stick to it and then get myself off it later).

Um...someone ignorant of the risks would choose that they think they're safe, as they're ignorant of the risks. You haven't allowed for taking meds and being well-informed about the drug and potential risks. Here, we have doctors and pharmacists. I find them very helpful and knowledgeable, and ask them questions when necessary.

I have uveitis in my eyes, caused by an unknown illness (they have done every test imaginable, lupus, lyme, TB,...you name it, they have done it). The uveitis (as I understand it - doctors are not great about explaining these things) has caused new blood vessels to grow in my eyes, and caused snowbanking in the bottoms of my eyes. Last year, trauma to my eye caused the blood vessels to burst, and I had a vitrectomy. The inflammation has also caused my pupil to scar to my lenses ( or cornea..one of the two), so now my pupil doesn't open up all the way. I am on an NSAID (which I am horrible at taking), and eye drops for it. I recently had a flare up of inflammation in the right eye, which caused new scarring deposits on my cornea.

I would not judge it as ignorant as it also depends on everyones personal definition of the word "risk" or knowing the side effects and possible dangers might for some people still be much more bearable then to put up with the current problem they would be facing if they don't take the medication, which still does not mean they are ignorant of the risk. For me personally I am someone who never bothered too much about risk. Life is living it and at times things can go wrong...but things can go wrong via medication or via other ways, if I want to put myself into cotton wool then I best just stay in my bed and hope that the ceiling won't fall down onto me (as it could be risky to use a car, public transport could explode, one of my bus journeys ended a bus bumping into the bus I was on from behind so that is also faaar too dangerous to use then and I could even slip out on the floor at home, not being able to get up due to a very bad injury and die as nobody would notice I am not around). I just think sometimes that people think too much about possible risks which is why I am happy with the view that things which don't kill me make me stronger. So whilst I do know the sideffects and risks of my medication and whilst I do know that this medication is not one which should be taken during pregnancy, I am damn glad that I got it.

Yeah, I would agree that science, and medicine, are fairly ignorant about a great number of things. You're starting to see more reports in the news that supplements (and meds) are turning out to be more harmful than good. Doesn't mean they're all bad, but the list of stuff I would take is ever shrinking.

An inflammation of the eyes, cause unknown. Various causes ruled out. Do you have any other (recurrent) disease? Can it be triggered by something in your diet? Like some kind of herb (extract). Do you do strenuous exercize? Inflammation will widen the blood vessels, yes. I have no idea what snowbanking is. I suspect that it is a case of molecular mimicry. Unfortunately I have not researched this condition, though I am interested, and I cannot offer you a solution nor an alternative. In these cases I feel that the aberrant immune system ought to be retrained. I do not know how yet.

All the residents love me at the hospital, because they get their names on the articles they have published about my condition. Yup, took my meds. I don't like having to take them, however the consequences of not taking them are not something I want to deal with. When I go out, I bring them along, just in case I end up sleeping somewhere other than home...I really don't want to skip them.
