Republicans don’t want a healthcare bill passed because Democrats will be elected in a landslide.

And this:
In 2010, when all the the Bush tax cuts are finally phased in, a staggering 52.5 percent of the benefits will go to the richest 5 percent of taxpayers.

Study: Bush Tax Cuts Cost More Than Twice As Much As Dems' Health-Care Bill
By Susie Madrak Wednesday Sep 09, 2009 10:00am

Citizens for Tax Justice point out what I was saying just the other day: We only hear all this crying and moaning about the deficit when it's something for regular working people, and not a powerful lobby. And of course, the Republican'ts are right

But who's the liar?

Lots of interesting spin on that question, Lucy.  Now the bill du jour might specifically prohibit illegal immigrants from qualifying on paper, but if there is no mechanism of enforcement, no requirement to check, if that checking mechanism was deliberately left out, then what we have is a damn lie.  Some might even call it a deliberate "fuck you," of a lie to the American people.

Sorta like passing a law that prohibits underage drinking, and putting in a clause that prohibits bartenders from checking ID, or asking about age, or exercising an experienced eye.  Is it a lie to say underage people cannot drink, under such circumstances?

Heretic, Just for clarification, that was the heading of the section I posted... not my question.
I understand that it isnt clear, regarding enforcement, I did read the politifact site regarding  ways it can be put into place, but to me it does seem to me to be a cack handed situation. But then I dont know bills from franks.
Its gonna be spun into a tizzzy.

Any jump that might have been there immediately after the speech has been replaced by a hole in the ground.

Fully 55% now disapprove.

I am going to say this only one more time. The entire purpose to that citation was to point out that Obama was a skilled public speaker. I still don't understand why that is in question or why it is so hard to give him his due in a matter that is an important skill for politician.

This is my favorite part of the whole thing:

But Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), one of Obama's most consistent critics, saw some room for compromise. "It was a good speech, the problem is that what he wants and what they've written are two totally different things," said Coburn, an OB-GYN. “I'm willing to compromise to get things fixed. But I'm not willing to put the government in charge because we don't have a good track record."

(The night's defining moment)

So, we have a member of the government telling us they are not to be trusted to be in charge of the government.

You apparently have a short memory. Reagans entire campaign and most of his policies were centered on his tell us that government should not be trusted to be in charge of anything.
