This makes much more sense in my head, than it probably does here.
I've always thought that romance for the sake of romance felt contrived and fell a little flat for me. But when something just comes about naturally in a situation, which has a special element to it, that's what feels "romantic" for me. Like, every time I cook him dinner and I'm in the kitchen doing the dishes afterward...when he comes up behind me and wraps his arms around me, and I turn around for a kiss...and we end up dancing in the kitchen - - it just happens, AND it's romantic. And it wasn't planned (at least I hope not, lol) where he calculated it out in the living room, first. If he had, it wouldn't mean anything to me.
Flowers because he loves to see my eyes light up - that's romantic. Flowers because "It will be romantic if I bring her flowers" does nothing.
Like....Valentine's Day is not romantic for me. It's a day to fund Hallmark. The day he showed up at my apartment with a rose bush for my patio....that was romantic.
I think I get what you're saying, Level, that when you just focus on each other and on being your natural selves, and the love comes...the romance stuff just follows on its own, at its own pace. If you're pushing the romance, you are forcing your own path (for lack of a better word) and missing out on the love that can naturally occur.
