Dominant men in my life, including Owners, call me "girl" - To me it means nothing more than "submissive female" - and I love it. : )

We don't often talk to femsubs (and those that we do, we call them by their names because well ... they aren't our submissives), but with male subs that we are considering, we actually use calling them "boy" as a way to judge how well they will fit in with us. We call our currently collared sub "boy" all the time, and well ... we have with each of our serious potentials too. If they can't handle being called "boy" when we are chatting, then they aren't going to fit in here; if, on the other hand, they like being called "boy" by me, then they go up a few points ... if they are kinda blah about it, it could go either way.

i wonder if it is rude to ask a Dom/Domme to not call you certain names? if there is a way to do this, How?
I have heard the terms little one, subbie or pet a lot being used as "pet names" but is "girl" used by a lot of Doms?

Thank You in advance for any advice *smiles*

It is rude to presume a social closeness to someone for no reason, the same way it would be rude for a stranger generally to call you "honey."

Naming people is a symbol of closeness and intimacy. It is why masters will give their slaves new names, it is why wives will change their name, it is why we choose to introduce ourselves in certain ways to certain people. Names have power and by naming eachother in certain ways, we symbolize a closeness or distance towards other people.

When someone stomps all over those lines and presumes a closeness which does not exist, it is indeed quite rude.

Generally you can smile and say, oh my name is X, I guess we haven't been introduced yet, and hope they get the hint.

Well, I refer to all submissives I don't know well by their name.

My own slaves, and those submissives I have an affectionate relationship with, I call 'dear'.

Mind you, one of those friends really objected to this term, so as I result I am constantly about to call her 'dear' and stopping myself. To her, the term ranked with 'lil one' which she finds equally offensive. I have to admit, I am with her on that one.

But to me 'dear' is a good term, meaning 'dear to me'.

Ultimately it comes down to not calling people what they do not wish to be called.

"Pet" names from those who are assuming a false intimacy with me, really give me the creeps. To me, if someone whom I barely know, calls me "pet" "girl", "little one", etc., it means they are trying to force some sort of power exchange, however subtle. As though I need to be called something diminutive to remind me of my slavely status, and them of their domly mien.
Maybe I read too much into it. For the most part, while online and conversing with strangers, I expect to be treated as an equal. I don't feel the need to pepper my sentences with Sir, or "Lordly One", I feel it stilts the conversation.
Unless the pet name is something offensive, I typically let it ride, and just make a note that this is probably not someone with whom I will seek further interaction. I dont feel the need to correct them or anything.
I also hate cliche's. EVERYONE gets called pet, little one and the like. Pet names to me, are supposed to be unique to a person, something you decide on after you actually know the person.

Hi All,

i have talked with several Doms, but there is two who call me "girl" which drives me crazy but i wish not to be rude. i know girl doesn’t sound like a bad name but its like all the time ~~ "Thank you girl" or "yes, you may girl". i mean call me little one, jenn, baby, slut but just girl?

These Doms i have not gotten real close with and right now not planning to get any closer with but for future reference... i wonder if it is rude to ask a Dom/Domme to not call you certain names? if there is a way to do this, How?
I have heard the terms little one, subbie or pet a lot being used as "pet names" but is "girl" used by a lot of Doms?
