"Pet" names from those who are assuming a false intimacy with me, really give me the creeps. To me, if someone whom I barely know, calls me "pet" "girl", "little one", etc., it means they are trying to force some sort of power exchange, however subtle. As though I need to be called something diminutive to remind me of my slavely status, and them of their domly mien. Maybe I read too much into it. For the most part, while online and conversing with strangers, I expect to be treated as an equal. I don't feel the need to pepper my sentences with Sir, or "Lordly One", I feel it stilts the conversation. Unless the pet name is something offensive, I typically let it ride, and just make a note that this is probably not someone with whom I will seek further interaction. I dont feel the need to correct them or anything. I also hate cliche's. EVERYONE gets called pet, little one and the like. Pet names to me, are supposed to be unique to a person, something you decide on after you actually know the person.
