I've seen alot of the old posters like this but I had never seen so many about "careless talk" before. And "When you ride alone, you ride with Hitler?" Wow, interesting...............luci

The US was paranoid and not all of it for no good reason, they also interred german/japanese americans...And of course, they were not unaware that there would be espionage, and people trying to find out things for the Axis.

Status: offline 		There were many spies in this country at the time.  I'm sure there still are.
I think I read somewhere when his spies reported to Hitler that a P-51 Mustang was rolling off the assembly line every few minutes Hitler had him shot as a double agent thinking he was feeding him misinformation.

And look at all the ruses that went on prior to the D-Day invasion.

In the end it was more for civilian morale, that way they get to feel like they did
"something".

My dad used to talk of the scrap drives, steel, rubber, kitchen grease.
He wonders if they actually used all this stuff or it was a way to make the population feel like they contributed.

Status: offline 		Oh, you bet those were important, when we were throwing tons and tons of steel every minute at the axis. can't move shit without tires, and machinery don't run without grease. And if you were driving alone instead of carpooling it was an inefficiency we couldn't afford, and towards the end we were having trouble financing that war, and bond drives were failing.......

Status: offline 		Yes, saving and reusing metal, etc was important. Because much of that stuff was imported and the ships were being targeted for torpedoing. You can't build a jeep without wheels and latex does not grow in the U.S., same with other items. If you can't import the needed raw material, you can't build it.

Yeah, I knew about the internment camps and the ration stamps and the general history. I'd read and heard about US spies but I guess I just didn't realize it was as rampant as these posters seem to indicate. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get ya, right?

Some are relatively harmless, like the devil (complete with a swastika armband) trying to convince Donald Duck to spend all his money instead of investing it in war bonds, or the seven dwarfs mining diamonds and marching and singing into town to trade them for, you guessed it, war bonds.

Then there are the more graphic ones. Like Bugs Bunny parachuting down and hitting Japanese soldiers in the heads with a hammer, saying, "Take this you gook! Take that you slant-eye!"

Funny that about Bugs Bunny, these days if you call the Taliban or Al qeada ragheads those on the left get a case of the vapors.

Status: offline 		The US had very good reason to worry about spies during WWII. Most people don't know this but German agents sabotaged a munitions depot in New York harbor during WWI.

Funny that! We'll have the Marines drill holes in them but God forbid if they "insult" them or "offend" them before they pull the trigger according to the looney lefties! lol
I don't even get to shoot them and I call them ragheads.
