Firebirdseeking -> toys and US/Canadian customs (9/16/2009 4:57:30 PM)

Does anyone have any experience bringing toys (obviously not handcuffs, though) through US and Canadian customs?  Any advice from those who know?

With airline security being what it is...MAIL IT!! Label it as samples with $0 value. Yes you risk the loss of your toys by not having them with you which is where insured parcel post (UPS/FedEx) is preferrable.
Checked baggage on the airlines there are too many stories of very nice items being stolen, carry on really isn't possible with TSA as many of the impliments we use, DUH, can be used as restraints which may end up you on a terrorist watch list.

Don't take a Laptop with Porn across the border, as Canada has some strange Pornographic transportation laws.

At least that's what I read.

FYI the US has weird ones at the border now days too. Customs is allowed to confiscate your laptop to search for Child porn, and they are not required to return it, give you a slip, or have probable cause. I.e. they might just like the look of your new MacBook Pro and decide they need to seize it and search it for kiddie porn, and then hustle you on your way never to see it again. Not to mention this applies to all electronic devices which could be transporting porn (i.e. iPod, iPhone, G-phone, USB Drives etc etc). My understanding is that this is working it's way through court thanks to EFF (electronic Freedom Foundation) and the ACLU, but for the time being they can still take your stuff because the no court has issued a "stay" on the practice (yet).

I have been taking my toys over the border from Toronto to WV, via Reagan and Dulles since 9/11, Ive gone via plane, and via car. Ive always had my toys in checked baggage, except for a couple of small vibes, which they found in my make up bag, Ive been searched a couple of times,  but never had anything confiscated, at one time I had cuffs, floggers and metal toys in my checked bags without an issue. I have lost one flogger in 8 years travelling back and forth three or four times a year. Most of my case is taken up with leather, latex and toys as well, oh and lots of boots.... altho I have started to leave stuff in WV now, its a pain draggin it all the time:)
My experience only:)
good luck
Lucy
