allthatjaz, your grammar and spelling are quite fine in my opinion and certainly well above average for the internet! My OP was not regarding people with conditions like dyslexia, and in fact I've generally noticed that people who are dyslexic tend to do just fine as do people I've come across who are diagnosed with mild autism spectrum disorders, etc.

Personally, I have bad hearing and eyesight, but I've never broken a bone or had a cavity and cutting my nails takes quite a bit of elbow grease. Over the years, you learn to cope with whatever your weak suits are and use your strong suits are to the fullest. Every human body has its ups and downs, just like putting points into your character at creation in a tabletop game... ;)

I've always been one to pick writing in grammatically proper sentences over specific protocols which are common in terms of capitalization and such in the context of the internet BDSM scene. I probably qualify as a "grammar nazi." One of the first ways that someone can judge another person on the internet, besides by any pictures they may post, is by way of their spelling, grammar, and ability to articulate a thought coherently. Indeed, that is how I judge people who contact me on the internet, both in the context of the BDSM scene, as well as within professional and other circles which are completely unrelated.

Common protocols, however, go against proper English grammar.

So I'm curious - what are your thoughts on this topic? Is such protocol somehow important to you? If so, why? If you do adhere to such protocols, what is your reason for doing so as versus simply writing using proper grammar?

Hope to get some interesting, thought-provoking, and constructing comments on this topic.

Well, on a scale of 1-10. it rates about a -952. In the grand scheme of life, it is just not that important for the most part.

The form someone else writes is upto them.... however if they are hoping I will read it then there are certain modes of writing they are better off avoiding.

TXTSPK.... Firstly I am another dyslexic (seems to be a few of Us around), I have My Own ways of helping compensate when it is 'normal' writing, I can't understand half of it when in TXTSPK. Plus it comes over as lacking both IQ and effort.... I don't have much tolerance for those who lack either, let along those who lack both. If it is in TXTSPK it is pretty much guarenteed I won't read it.

Slashy speak...  If the whole thing is written like this it is almost as unreadable as TXTSPK....I have slightly more tolerance when used sparcely just to emphasise a particular point

Third person... If it is coming from a girl who has been in Gorean training for a long time then I'll have some patience with it... it is likely to be habitual. Other than that use it sparcely if at all.

Capitalisation... I am not bothered if most folk use it or not. I got in the habit when I was younger and requiring it of My girls and it now takes Me more effort to remember to not use it... so I use it.

Grammar nazi's... they simply piss Me off and are likely to get told to kiss My ass. If they don't like how I write then the solution is simple... stop reading My posts!
