Agents for Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi were met with a strong-arm from a real-estate broker they approached to rent a posh townhouse on Manhattan's Upper East Side for his visit to the city this week. The broker, with characteristic New York chutzpah, told them to take a hike back to the desert. "They kept asking, 'What would be the price? What would be the price?' I thought about it and said, 'Why don't you send Megrahi back to Scotland, and then maybe we can work something out.' They hung up on me immediately," said Jason Haber, a broker for Prudential

I beginning to love NYers.

Hey, its his place I guess he can refuse to rent to whoever he wants to, though he better hope the Libyans don't sue him on discrimination grounds.

What's the problem here?

George Bush made us the best buddies with Gadhafi, didn't he?

U.S. to renew ties with Libya - Mideast/N. Africa - msnbc.com

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration said Monday it will restore normal diplomatic relations with Libya for the first time in over a quarter century after deciding to remove Moammar Gadhafi’s country from a list of state sponsors of terrorism.

“We are taking these actions in recognition of Libya's continued commitment to its renunciation of terrorism and the excellent cooperation Libya has provided to the United States and other members of the international community in response to common global threats faced by the civilized world since September 11, 2001,” Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in a statement.

Well, since I'm still regularly hearing about the Clinton and Carter years I don't think it is inappropriate to mention a man who has only been out of office 9 months, as much as many Republicans would like to disassociate themselves from him by pretending he is "ancient history".

Of course you leave out the context. Gaddafi saw our armed forces f-ing up all the personnel the various middle east terrorist groups were sending across the border into Iraq and started having flashbacks about the several years he had to spend dressed in disguise (and in drag) after Reagan dropped several bombs around his tent. He then offered to end his nuclear program in return for more normal relations.

So, apparently, Bush is an idiot for talking to a regime that was offering serious concessions in return for diplomatic relations but he's also an evil warmonger for not having diplomatic relations with the Iranian president who is simultaneously developing nuclear weapons and a ballistic missile delivery system while also simultaneously saying the holocaust never happened and Israel should be wiped off the map, all the while funding Hamas who is responsible for most of the violence against Israel and sent personnel into Iraq to kill Iraqi civilians, Iraqi solders and *AMERICAN SOLDIERS*.

My brains would literally drip from my ears like Bill Clinton's seed down the side of Monica's face if I ever even tried to hold those two mutual exclusive value judgements in my head at the same time. Congrats, you've achieved PHD level doublethink.

And of course, with Obama in office, Gaddafi has reassessed his situation and realizes he has nothing to fear from the current administration so he's back to his old attitude if not his old tricks (blowing Europeans and American's out of the air).
