Status: offline 		Hello all first off let me say i know its illegal for trans people to openly and actively serve in the military. My question is more along the lines of is it possible for someone to transistion whilst in the military and be able to hide it. I'm not thinking of joining the marines or some crazy stuff like that i'm thinking of national guard or coast guard. Weekend warrior stuff you know. So is it possible for a girl like me to stealth my way through the military (take hormones at home live life as a girl at home, but goto military as a boy)

Status: offline 		haha, well it's technically don't ask don't tell, but I don't think they have an official stance on men with boobs ect.

Status: offline 		well tape aint gonna do it, you're gonna be pushed physically and mentally with your compatriots 24/7, shit gets noticed in that amount of time....then again ed wood was able to storm normandy in women's underwear ....

Status: offline 		I am sure it will not work hon as they do require physicals from time to time and will notice. Myself I believe it shouldn't make a difference but you know vanilla people will not understand. Good luck.

Status: offline 		Might be able to pull it off, but I doubt it, and I wouldn't want to be you when you are found out...bad idea, its just asking for trouble...really fucking big holy-living-shit-beat-out-of-you trouble. Transition completely and then join up as a female.

Status: offline 		can't join up after i transition completely as a woman. The physicals will show that i was once male and that i've become damaged goods just because all my junk is inverted. And who is ed wood i'd like to hear about this fellow. Did he survive normandy?

Tim burton made a film bout him a few years ago(one of his better ones) definitely worth check'n out if you've never seen it

Status: offline 		I'm pretty sure the entry physical would detect that you're taking hormones and at least during boot camp you'd be using a communal shower so hiding breasts would be effectively impossible.

As a practical matter if your fellow trainees found out you would be in some physical danger.

Ed was... unique.  That pretty much sums up everything he did.

Your best bet for any of it would be coast guard though, if you did join up.  Natl. Guard isn't even safe.  I have a couple friends in Natl. Guard that are being shipped to Afghanastan... tomorrow actually.  And Coast Guard, they're fairly liberal in general.  I still don't think it's a great idea on either account though, what with the previously mentioned safety issues and such.

Status: offline 		i'm not on hormones currently (lack of funds) so the breast development is non existent. Was kinda wanting to use the nice fat military pay check to pay for horomones. So the communal showers isn't an issue. Well it kinda is but thats because public showers weird me out...i'm slightly germaphopic. i should state that i don't have breasts and i'm not on horomones currently. I hear of numerous people who stealth their way into the work force as their natural born gender and live life as the gender they perceive they should be at home. Main reason i posted this is because i was curious if i could do the same thing. i know that in the entry exams there are physicals and all that mumbo jumbo. I will pass that because i'll be percieved as a healthy purple blooded american male. After i get in is what my guestion was all about. After boot camp and i become an official part of the coast guard.

Status: offline 		It is not really seen by civilians, but service members do not have the same freedoms they enjoy.
You and your body become government property. You must keep it within the military's standard.
Anything you own, can be inspected at anytime. You could be questioned about anything, and you have to answer.

That said, the military has a great diversity of people in its ranks.
Yes, there are gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and pansexuals. Marriages are mostly monog', but there are open marriage and polyamoury too.
Transexuals? i don't know any in the military, but i wouldn't be surprized to meet one.

Diversity in the military goes both way. Chances are just as good that for every "live and let live" person in your chain of command, there will be equal numbers of people that won't accept anything they don't like- and those people can and will make your life hell. That's how it is.

Status: offline 		You will get physicals and exams at any time they feel like so if you're going to be taking hormones during your stay in the military you will be found out.

Plus if your fellow soldiers find out....expect a severe beating or for someone to tell the higher ranks and expect to get a dishonorable discharge if not brig time.

Status: offline 		One of the problems I see with this are the regular, unscheduled piss tests.  How are they going to watch it from hose to jar if you have no hose?  Also, those hormones you want to be on will be revealed by that very same piss test.  I just can't see this working.

Status: offline 		As the wife of a military man and the Dominant of a sub who is in the Reserves, I'm here to tell you that you can't really pull this off.  Any hormones that you might be taking in the future would be detected by the random drug testing.  Also, you have no choice in medical screenings with military medical personnel.  The first time you became ill or injured during active duty with any branch, you'd be found out.  If you're lucky with that outcome, the easiest punishment you would receive would be *just* a dishonorable discharge.  The way the UCMJ is written, you could potentially serve several years in military jail.  Either way, that would follow you for the rest of your life.

As for the "big, fat paycheck" part, let Me tell you......  It isn't that big and it isn't that fat.  Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserves only get paid for the time they spend as active duty.  That can be as little as two days a month and when you first join up, that's not a lot.  What's more likely is that you would be deployed no matter what branch you sign up with and in a lot of cases right now, that means Afghanistan.  That's where My sub is now and let Me tell you that you'd better think long and hard about the idea of being there.  It's not an easy paycheck and I could spend the next hour sitting here telling you why.  I'll spare you that and just leave it sufficient to say that you may want to consider attempting to find another way to accomplish your goal.
