Hi Folks,

here a letter I received last year for me felines...well, they received it but I breached their confidentiality and right of privacy and opened it for them before capturing them and dragging them to the vet...however, in Germany our vets never wrote a letter in that style so I was quite amused when I read it and was wondering what your vets are doing in that respect.

Here is what "their" vet letter stated:

"Dear Pepper (and same letter received for Curry and Spicy),

Everyone at xxxVet hopes you are fit and well.

We would like to remind you that your yearly booster vaccination against Cat Flu and Enteritis (and if you wish, Feline Leukaemia) is due before 11 December 2008.

While you are here with your owner (HAH...me an owner ), we will also undertake our usual general health check, which includes looking at your heart, teeth, eyes, ears and coat. We will also check your weight and maybe your diet and, if needed be, check you are being treated regularly for fleas and worms.

Please spend a few minutes with your owner and help them to complete the enclosed Pet Health Questionaire (i.e. any little aches and pains that may have been bothering you or any problems that may have occurred since your last visit.) This will serve as a reminder to your owner and assist the vet during your check-up. Please bring the completed quesitonaire with you to your appointment.

Ask your owner to phone us for an appointment before your vaccination expires.

We look forward to seeingt you soon.

XYZ

From your friends at xxxVet"

My vet is really old school.  If we don't call, and beg and plead for an appointment before the next millenium, forget it.

I'd like to have a vet for the dogs, like Phoenix's vet is for her cats.

Our vet just sends out a post card, and it's very simple it just states that our pets are our family and that it'll be time to be getting them what ever it is that is come due.

I have to admit it is the best Vet I ever had. The ones in Germany were average and bad but the one I got here they are about 5 or 7 vets and plenty nurses and really nice. Their age is ca. 35-45 (majority of them), it is quite nice to go to them (though Curry disagrees to that. When he got neutered he tried to get up their wall...his name curry does really fit him very well indeed).

Meh, after the first incident (when I got kitty fixed, it took three vets to hold her down, that was just to sedate her)I really don't think my vet would be in any rush to see her again...

The vet for the pooch sends him reminder letters, magazines, and birthday cards. The vet for the birds doesn't do that (not the same vet obviously); I have to make the reminders myself for the birds' visits.

The pooch got a letter a month ago reminding him he was due for his shots. But it didn't include a questionaire.

They do boarding as well and he seems to like it there. I do too because prior to staying there he would attack any other dog passing him on the street, in the car. There was a highly dominant German Shepherd there last time who definitely put my dog in his place. He's a lot more social now, thanks be.

I get postcards telling me who is due for what on the dogs and cat.

The horses, I give the shots myself. I have to remind myself to call and order them and pick them up from the vet.

Also on their homepage they describe their own pets they have inclusive their characters...I never thought that the vet can bring a fair amount of joy just for being nice and ... well, just human...

Must take all March to give all those shots. Since we board the horse at the trainer's, they schedule the shots. I still remember getting this list of vaccinations asking me which I wanted done.I asked the barn manager which ought to be done, he said all of them and I went off muttering about being asked if they were all needed.

Wish they had a Lymes vaccine though. First horse had it twice and each time it was a personality change that alerted us, he started trying to savage the kid. Two weeks of antibiotics and stall rest and he was back to normal.

Sometimes my vet sends letters or postcards to the cats, sometimes to me.

One of them was hilarious.  It said, "Attention:  teenage pregnancy is on the rise!"  It was basically a letter to the cat telling her to remind her owner that she needs to be fixed, if she isn't already.  Of course, both of mine were fixed years ago, but I still got a laugh.
