I googled EvilGeoff.... took me 6 pages to finally find one entry that was related to my collarme profile.

It took 6 pages to get to anything having to do with me as well..

I've tried to google myself several times over the years and its pretty impossible to find me. Even using my online nicknames, signon nicks I go by, or by my RL name. The names are just way too popular.. guess I'm not as original as I thought.

I don't really care who finds what about me. I've done enough "hiding" in my life. If people can't handle the truth, they probably shouldn't bother trying to get to know me, google me, or otherwise have anything to do with me.

*shrugs*

There's a big difference between being attacked and someone getting information from you. What you are seeing is attacks by people randomly going from one IP address to another. They have no idea who owns that IP address nor do they have any other information. Think of it as a shake-n-grab thief going down an apartmen hall trying one door after another to find one left unlocked.

Getting information from just an IP address is a lot harder especially since a lot of ISPs randomly shuffle IP addresses when people log on and off.

Granted Mr Warren this is true... IP address shuffle as one signs on and off. While they're on line.. it does not. And it's actually easy to get the information needed... while person is one line. The longer they stay on line, the easier it is to get. But for those that like to go on and off alot. It is harder to get. But like I said, it also depends on the programs one is running, how much experiance they have, and how much they're willing to go after said information.

Yeah I know the firewall I have set up are random attacks of people searching for things. But it also shows when one purposely attacks my PC. A different window pops up and actually allows me to go and see who is trying to access my PC. It leads right back to them as well. Unless of course, they get off line before I get to them. Then like I said before.. IP address is lost on that attack. And I have to wait till they try again.. and then their IP addy will be different so I have no proof it was them the first time.

All in all, it's all out there.. for those that want it.. and are willing to go get it. Hense the reason I refuse to put SS# or use credit cards on line.. firewalls.. safety features.. pppfffftttt... the best way to keep all that safe.. is not to do it to begin with.

Why then does the RIAA, who resources are basically inifinite, need to keep filing John Doe Lawsuits? They go after bit torrent users who are on line for days at a time swarming big files, and still can't finger them without the ISP's help. If there was really was a 'mystical program' that could identify people through their IP addresses, don't you think they would be using it?

I once had a problem with an online attacker - my firewall was able to keep them out and I eventually was able to figure out who it was. It was my laptop, sitting at the end of my desk on my home network. Not every triggered Intrusion Alert is an attack.

Or are you happier being paranoid? (Careful this could be a phishing scheme!)

I get over 444,000 hits when I put in John Warren, only a little under 700 are about me. That's only 15 in a ten thousand or so. Even if I cross it with my town, Delray Beach, a really small place, I get 275 (Including "how to contact John Warren [it ain't me]) and only one (a CollarMe post) is about me.

Oh I don't deny I'm around a bit, but there are a lot of John Warrens, amusing since I, personally have no blood family.
