Ya see??? And they even ask in that report to look in your shed for more??? Who would be so mad to do that???

Seriously IF I would be here on my own, without my 4 furrys, I would be freaked out by now. I can tolerate spiders to a certain degree but here the ugliest version of them are breeding damn successful and those I don't like much at all...today earlier in the bathroom a normal daddy longleg passed summer and me, we let him walk and he is now having a nap under my sink, but those other once here are freaking me out at times and I really appreciate that my girls enjoy being inside...kind of....always happy to rescue me

Okay, I am all for our bug-eating pals, but I ASSURE you that I would need a boatload of money in my hand before I went out there to identify them by SPECIES.

LOL Lady Hibiscus, I certainly agree...here it is just that I have those here who are bigger (though of course australian folks would laugh about them I suppose) AND thicker, and those freak me out. In Germany we had them about 2-4 times a year in our 7 bedroom house...over here I have them at least once a week on average...in just a 1 bedroom flat!!!

That's why I am glad that my girls are sorting them out. Pepper often only used to kill them, now summer on top of it eats them, so I found the right match for my defense

As long as they are smaller or just the daddy longlegs I don't mind them...but when they dare to become thicker then my tolerancelevel is gone big time!!!

And Holly, well, I see, my tolerance level there is a little bit higher then yours...so...I better write that down: *no spider into Hollys pressy, she would not appreciate it, not even a tiny one*

Suddenly, I'm finding that our extended wet this summer - while a pain in the ass for going out to the lake, or keeping the yard mowed - may not have been such a bad thing after all....

Ten species over the course of a weekend, eh? There's more than ten species sharing the front entry way to the house right now. I wave to them as I pass underneath every time I use the front door.

What?

Halloween is coming up you know. Why spend the money on fake webbing when you can have the real stuff.

I like Daddy Long legs... I dont think I've ever seen them here in FL though.

Spiders here risk their lives if they surprise me.   If I see them at a distance (across the room for instance) generally I leave them alone.. unless they appear to be stalking me... then they die.  The Kittehs are rather haphazard about hunting spiders.. when they do they usually fail to kill/eat them.. Neither of them are accomplished hunters.. they can stalk, and bat things around, but both of them seem totally baffled by what they should do next..LOL

Spiders that go from the front entry to the front foyer get the polite trip back out to the front entry. If the same spider persists in coming inside, its next trip is to a handy fire ant mound. If it survives that and still returns to the foyer, then Roomba catches up with it at some point.

Yes, I can tell the difference between most of the individual spiders. Those with the more interesting webs even have names.

OMG folks, you really make me laugh

But yes, I agree Elipsis...and sappatoti I think you would drive me nuts if I would observe that in person how you would bring that creature outside and then seeing it might come back...that's one of the ways how to get me out faaaaaaaaast.

And Greedy one...I think once you come over you might need an addition to your serie yanno...I mean...Summer eats spiders...so I am sure her kids will do so too and when you come over to your hubby, then your two and your new 3rd addition by then would have time to get used to each other yanno  I mean..hey, we could name it even Holly, I mean I could choose the clumsiest out of them once she has kitten and then you would have a spider eating version too

But apart from that I totally agree with you...spiders are adviced to neither stalk me nor my kitten...Daddy long legs are welcome...everything else is not...I mean heck even curry does not like visitors at all and only tolerated Mr. A during his stay...so we have here our visitor rules in our castle  (well...or in our shoe box)

the article is obviously a fake; what long hot summer with no wet periods for instance? It rained for weeks here! after a few weeks of warm in May and early June the rest of June, July and August were typical of the last few years where it might as well have been monsoon season, (albeit in a typically understated British way of course).

and how exactly is a cranefly a spider? Flying spiders - of which there are none known to science - would be just about the last straw in forcing a mass exodus to the polar regions.

in any case, spiders are amazing creatures in every way - well worth learning about. Except Tegenaria and its ilk of course - they are amazingly scary and horrid (as well as well worth learning about).

Still, with fifteen cats in the house, including nine kittens who will chase their own tails in the absence of anything more interesting, even the scary ones are not something I'm going to worry about (unless they sprout wings)

bah.

crappy whingy pommie article.  the pic was of a JUMPING spider!  They're about the size of a Collar Me capital letter in your posts!  They jump AWAY from ya, not onto ya!

The clock spider is a little bigger than what commonly lives ALL OVER my town (Huntsman spiders, last year I killed one woth a legspan as wide as my outspread hand).
