ha!  and I was just thinking of creating a favourite Kurosawa film poll, to fulfill the urge to talk Kurosawa!

Damn! now I have to choose between M and Rashomon?!?  a-a-ahhh...

Who knows what it's like inside me?

How it screams and cries out inside me when I have to do it!

Don't want to! Must!

Don't want to! Must!

And then a voice cries out, and I can't listen anymore!

Help!

I can't!

I can't!

- from M, screenplay by Fritz Lang and Bertolt Brecht

Oooh, DemonKia.

- Do you know who I am?

Cegeste - I do.

- Say it.

Cegeste - My death.

- Good.  From now on, you will serve me.

Cegeste - I will serve you.

- You will obey my orders.

Cegeste - I will obey your orders.

- Perfect.

   Now, come with me.

  Hold on to my dress.

  Do not be afraid.

   Don't let go.

- from Orphée, screenplay by Jean Cocteau

DemonKia -> RE: Greatest NON HOLLYWOOD films, part1! (9/26/2009 8:22:02 AM)

Uh huh, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout . . . . . .

Cocteau's 'Beauty & the Beast' is also amazing . . ..

& I'd put Bunuel's 'L'Âge d'or' on the list too . . . .

DarkSteven -> RE: Greatest NON HOLLYWOOD films, part1! (9/26/2009 8:38:48 AM)

I'd go with Black Orpheus or Les Comperes.

Level -> RE: Greatest NON HOLLYWOOD films, part1! (9/26/2009 10:47:30 AM)

Just what I was thinking Level...definitely just about Kurosawa's best, absolutely loved that film.

Arpig -> RE: Greatest NON HOLLYWOOD films, part1! (9/27/2009 2:45:51 AM)

I would put in my vote for the following (in no specific order):

~ Ran
~ Seven Samurai
~ Oh! What a Lovely War (one of my all time favourites)
~ Kagemusha
~ Alexander Nevsky (Eisenstein)
~ Ivan the Terrible (Eisenstein)
~ The Incredible Lightness of Being (I know most people find it overlong and dull as Hell, but I like it[:-])
~ Hell in the Pacific (I know its not really a foreign film, but still its fucking great. Just Mifune and Marvin for pretty much the entire movie, one speaking English and the other Japanese...its really cool without subtitles...you really get into Lee Marvin's character's shoes that way[:)]).
~ No Man's Land
~ The Wansee Conference (Scary as Hell reenactment of the conference where the Nazis planned the Holocaust)
~ The Atomic Cafe (Not sure if its a Hollywood film or not...but its fucking good...track it down and rent it)
~ Siberiada
~ Nosferatu

And I'll stop there..those are some of my favourites.

Ran's in the #2 version of this...

hell, if hollywood got 5 of these polls, non conglom films need just as many to compete...

Agreed, my friend, just a mesmerizing work, for sure.

HPH, you're doing a great job with your polls! I appreciate them.

HatesParisHilton -> RE: Greatest NON HOLLYWOOD films, part1! (9/27/2009 6:15:50 AM)

The "storm of arrows" was simply too intense (especially seeing it in the cinema during it's initial theatrical release).

people forget how BLOODTHIRSTY Shakespeare was!  Set it in Japan and watch out, buddy!

Thanks Level!

next one coming u[:D]p soon!
