How is that any good to people working outside China? Im sorry but it makes no sense. Unemployment is particular to the person and country that person lives in. Unless there is a world pick up in the economy generally, the fact that Ford are setting up a facility for employees in China will do nothing for those unemployed in the US, Ireland, and any other country except China you wish to mention.

/Begins studying Chinese/

At least Ford didn't take bailout money before doing this...

Bailouts what a laugh. Anyone for a NAMA. Yeah our government has come up with this ingenious idea to make the humble taxpayer ie everyone, pay for the sins of the few extravagant wasters who crippled our economy between them. Thats what NAMA is and we will be paying back for decades. Yes people our government is using our money to recapitalise the banks. Funny and small world it really is

I don't see anything wrong with Ford building a plant in China. The last paragraph says they are expanding their China operations to meet the demand from Chinese consumers. This is no different from Toyota having plants in the US. I bet building cars locally saves money from shipping and import taxes.

It also transfers US technology to China and reduces car cost in US (despite most cars will sell in China, they are quietly moving all parts manufacturing there). US consumers are expected to make money in stock market or buy on credit. It should also be stressed that we are not looking at free market capitalism but at a corporate scam. China keeps its currency artificially undervalued making it possible for corporations to cut huge profits. It works in short term only though, and the fruits for US middle and low classes are clearly visible (stagnant income, increase in poverty and massive  losses in gainful employment).

What, did you think the fat cats were going to stop stripping this country's wealth of their own volition ? Of some sort of sense of patriotism all the sudden ? Even voting in a biracial President is not going to accomplish that. Where could anyone ever get such an idea ?

Give a Man a fish, and he will know where to come tomorrow for another fish. He won't want to know how to fish until you say NO.

I am just waiting for the death of the golden goose, which they are killing. It will bite them in the ass, and hopefully there will be no more bailout money. That bailout was a shitty, and fucking stupid decision, if not criminal.

Hey wait, if I get paid to operate a crane and kill a bunch of people would I not be held responsible, or at least fired ? But they get a bonus. Destroy the workplace, get a check.

This is the kind of shit that gets to me. It is seemingly not good enough that we are going to hell in a handbasket, now said handbasket is unraveling and people are falling out ! But I am alright, the world is allwrong. Actually that is only fifty persent true, I am half left.

As someone else said: Chinese built cars for an emerging Chinese market. This is really no different from when Ford opened plants in Europe to feed the growing European desire for cars after the second world war. However you'll see this ended even though sales of Ford cars in those regions were still popular. Plants close because corporations have no sense of loyalty these days, all they do is find ways to increase their margin. This is multinational capitalism why the moaning all of a sudden? Don’t moan just buy alternative cars.

Part of whole life costing i.e. the cheaper option for ford considering the expected demand is to build a local factory rather than pay for shipping, import taxes etc.

Someone else mentioned American technology moving abroad? Would this be that green technology that everyone in the US is complaining China hasn't got enough of to meet global targets? Other than green technology i.e. engine efficiency design and perhaps higher safety standards there hasn't been any real advancements in car design for the average driver since the late 90's and I'm sure China would have caught up with that by now. If the technology is so advanced why can any car mechanic fix it after a few years? As far as production advancements in regards to automation I think China has already caught up in this respect also.
