Back in the early '70s I remember reading some articles in Popular Science that discussed using algae for all sorts of things, including fuels. It was an interesting proposition then and I do hope that it is included in an overall national policy on renewable fuels. As to hurting another country by not purchasing their oil, I wouldn't consider that to be a benefit nor necessarily a goal to achieve. While the governments of those countries may have been, and in some cases continue to be, a thorn in the side of the US government, it is the general population of those countries that actually produce those products and, hopefully, can benefit from their sale by earning profits, wages, and salaries for their work. I may be in the minority but I don't want to see the citizenry get hurt because their governments do something crazy.
