Why is it we so often see just one shoe in the road?

Usually you only have time to throw one shoe at a time at the bums along the side of the road as you drive past. If you have two shoes to get rid of you tie them together and throw them over the power lines. (Yes, this is tongue in cheek and I don't recommend throwing perfectly good shoes at bums.)

How come I always see mouthguards laying on the street? I recently saw what must be, like, my lifetime 4,000th bite-guard lying on the asphalt . . . . . (Yes, way yicky . . . . .) & yeah, the Straight Dope is awesome, way big thumbs up over Cecil Adams' ability to answer wittily answer most any question . . . . .

We get about 100 pieces of chewing gum for every square foot but no mouth guards as yet.

lol In the US the gum goes under the tables. I learned very young not to ever touch the underside of a table in any kind of public venue . . .. .
