Andalusite -> RE: Difference between BDSM and self-harm... (9/28/2009 6:41:25 PM)

I see cutting or self-harming as coming from a compulsive or depressed place, emotionally, whereas BDSM interactions, including self-inflicted ones, are usually coming from a more positive place (for example, sexuality, endorphin rush, desire to serve). Some people do mild self-infliction of BDSM during masturbation, such as pinching or slapping themselves on the thighs. Some people do so on web-cam, at the request/direction of their long-distance partner. My playpartner self-inserted some needles when I played with her once, since I hadn't yet had an opportunity to get the skills I needed to do it to her. She had been taught how to do it safely, and I controlled when she did it, where she put them, etc., and did some light play with them once they were in. I also removed/disposed of them.
