Rented Knowing last weekend. I want my $1.08 back.[:'(]

Damn, you got off cheap, Rosa. I saw it at the theater...I was muttering a steady stream of WTFs most of the time I was there. [>:]

Good to see you, glow and all!!

I was hesitant to rent it, but a gal said if I liked movies such as Alien, Aliens, I most likely would enjoy it. Well, she didn't have to say another word. Though she did say it wasn't action packed. But how could she relate the two in the least is beyone me. That female is lucky she's not a close friend, because I would strangle her. They couldn't be serious with that movie. And I enjoy Cage in comedy or action films, but he need not try for rolls that require depth. Not that he could have saved the movie from it's self.

See, I would agree about Cage, except for one film; Leaving Las Vegas. Kick ass, that one was.

OMG, comparing Aliens and Knowing is like comparing Lou Ferrigno with Urkel. [:o]

Worst that I've seen: Knowing, with Nicolas Cage, and Crank: High Voltage, with Jason Statham. And although I wouldn't call it "bad", I did fall asleep during Wolverine.

Most Over-Hyped: The Hurt Locker.

Best I've seen: The Hangover, 500 Days of Summer, Watchmen, Taken, and Inglorious Basterds.

"Taken" and "Inglourious Basterds" were definitely great, Level. I haven't seen any of the others but "The Hurt Locker" has definitely been on my list to see. So it isn't all that good?

luci

Hey luci :) Well, it IS good, just not as good as I was led to think. It's getting a fair amount of Oscar buzz, but I'd be surprised if it won, seriously. What bugged me about it was the pacing...it didn't feel "smooth", the story lurched around a bit, for my liking.

Should you see it? Yes. But don't expect the movie experience of a lifetime, IMO [X(]

Speaking of movies, heard any more on the Robicheaux adaptation?

Exactly why I had visions of my hands around her throat.

Yes. "In The Electric Mist" came out months ago and I saw it right away. It was fair. Unless a younger JLB could play Dave, no one could ever do it well enough for me[;)], though Tommy Lee Jones did a great job. They've made two movies of JLB's novels (the other was "Heaven's Prisoners,") and neither of those books or movies have Clete[:o] He's one of the best features of the novels.

BTW, have you read "Rain Gods" yet? It's JLB's newest featuring Hackberry Holland (relative of Billy Bob Holland from his "other" series....lol)..............luci

wow, which could be worse, Knowing or Eyes Wide Shut...

I mean if I was a BOrn Again I'd LOVE Knowing and frankly I'd rather have them spend their time and $ making a shitbag flick like THAT for themselves to enjoy than spend even 1/10th of said time and money BANNING a film *I* would like (such as Last Temptation of Christ, one of Martin's BEST).

NuevaVida -> RE: Worst Movies of 2009 (according to "Rotten Tomatoes") (9/30/2009 10:11:59 PM)

The movies on the list that I saw:

Whiteout - Terrible
Envy - I actually chuckled through this one
88 Minutes - Really bad!  What a disappointment.

And if I might add to the list, a movie I saw just a couple of days ago - "Love Happens"  The only good thing in that movie was Jennifer Aniston's hair.

I didn't see Knowing, but I turned Eyes Wide Shut off.  It was ridiculously bad.  If it was on the list, I missed it.

WyldHrt -> RE: Worst Movies of 2009 (according to "Rotten Tomatoes") (9/30/2009 11:13:50 PM)

They need to add "The Messenger: the Story of Joan of Arc" with Milla Jovovich (the only movie I've ever walked out of the theater in the middle of) and "Bringing Out the Dead", with Nicholas Cage. Horrid, both of them! [:'(]
Glad to see that "House of the Dead" made the list. It was richly deserved!

HatesParisHilton -> RE: Worst Movies of 2009 (according to "Rotten Tomatoes") (9/30/2009 11:22:20 PM)

oh, and Lost Souls richly deserved it.

half the stuff I've seen from the French this year was either suoer good or

Not yet, it's sitting bedside though. I'm reading Devil in the White City currently, and Rain Gods is next. What did you think of it?

LaTigresse -> RE: Worst Movies of 2009 (according to "Rotten Tomatoes") (10/1/2009 7:05:14 AM)

I've not seen any on that list.......fortunately. And it's been awhile since I've watched a movie. Just heading into my movie watching season. I think the last good movie I was was maybe Doubt. Maybe a few since that I cannot remember right now.

I've only just started it, honestly. It's good so far. When a new Robicheaux title comes out, I devour it in the first couple of days. I've not read all the Billy Bob Holland series so I wasn't as excited about this one. But, if JLB writes it, it's good, period. It started off good and will probably continue to be so. JLB is getting older, bless his heart, and the picture on the book jacket shows it. Dammit, he's going to live to be 150 and write a new one every year, I decree![:)] BTW, I've had "Devil in the White City" on my to-read list since it came out and everyone who's read it tells me it was so good. I'll get to it...soon....

His novel before "Devil" was "Isaac's Storm", which I highly recommend. And yes, JLB's pic is [:o]
