ORIGINAL: mnottertail Archer, Sorry, sicker than a pig, that's why no answer. http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htm So in the 13 states, we will go with the highest, 8.55 against federal 7.25, so a 1.20 x 2080 =40 HOUR WEEKS x a year, ignoring overtime) and you are removing from federal and state coffers 2476 taxable per minimum wage earner per year.......already deficits in federal and state governments, (and you don't think the states will add taxes to make that up? so, federal may not raise, but you are only pushing it off to the states) and as we read down the list of those bills, we have one that taxes health care bennies in there.........so, raise taxes on the lowest classes, and give them less cash doing it. That's why these bills are not comprehensive.......they don't want you to see what is happening....sorta like Bush off the books in the War. Easier to blame on Democrats that way. Now, 2400 bucks for healthcare a year? that won't buy anyone a goddamn blood pressure check. How is that making healthcare more affordable and more available. Ron "you are removing from federal and state coffers 2476 taxable per minimum wage earner per year" You're kidding me right? At minimum wage NOBODY actually pays federal income taxes, their net tax bill comes out in the negatives by the time you count in the standard exemptions. They usually get back at the end of the year MORE than what they paid in over the year in INCOME TAX. $2,400 is about 20% of an insurance policy for a family of 4. "The average employer-sponsored premium for a family of four costs close to $13,000 a year, and the employee foots about 30 percent of this cost." http://www.nchc.org/facts/cost.shtml Still Company Provided Healthcare is and has been since the 30's or 40's PRE TAX (non taxable) You're sidestepping that issue completely. HEALTH INSURACE provided by the employer is has been and unless they change that part of the tax code will remain pre tax. There have been a couple proposals to change the tax status of premiums, during the campaign McCain put forth the Tax all insurance regardless of who buys it for the person, I disagreed with it then and disagree with the idea now. The Biggest proposal by the GOP now with 46 Co Sponsors instead makes ALL Healthcare Policies regardless of who buys it tax deductable. It makes the purchases on level playing field but instead of everyone paying taxes on them nobody would pay taxes on money spent to buy health insurance.
