Is anyone else having problems with CM freezing up when other sites on IE are opened but minimized? It's been doing to me that a lot lately.[:@]

ModeratorOne -> RE: site freezing up (3/3/2006 3:21:06 PM)

You may be using too many system resources. How many IE windows do you have opened at once?

It's usually 2 pog.com windows that i have minimized while on CM, and one or two IMs.

slavejali -> RE: site freezing up (3/3/2006 3:36:00 PM)

It happens to me a lot too proudsub, i just close it and re-open it.

Saying that, I do have a habit of multi-tasking. *grin*

I've noticed, If i leave too many windows open from collarchat, example say im looking at 2 threads and a bio at the same time, it freezes.

I find that when the site starts slowing down and freezing up, running the system "clean-up" (I use "CrapCleaner", but there are many more available) takes care of the problem and I'm zipping along as usual. Temp files, cookies and spyware that build up will really slow you down.

KCMOLucky -> RE: site freezing up (3/3/2006 6:13:43 PM)

No, I haven't. It might be too many resources, like ModOne said. But then again, I've usually got PSP, WMP, and 3 or 4 tabs on Firefox open...lol Talk about too much stuff. [sm=lol.gif]

IrishMist -> RE: site freezing up (3/3/2006 7:12:46 PM)

It's been doing that with me since they started the changes on the profile page...and, I am not running anything else in the background.

IronBear -> RE: site freezing up (3/3/2006 7:21:52 PM)

The site has been seriously lagging for the last few days Mod One. This is particularly noticible in the chat areas. It doesnt matter if I use IE or Firefox. It is site specific as I can shut CM doen and go to other sites I frequent and there is no lagging at all.... I just figured that CM was doing upgrades and modifications.....

Thanks, i do that frequently to keep my games running well.

At least it's good to know i'm not alone.[:)]

How many megs of RAM do you people have, which version of Windows, which version of which browser and what CPU?

Typically it is insufficient hardware resources that would cause an issue such as this.

If it is just lag, it could be the site, although it has been running fine for Me here in Ontario.

KatyLied -> RE: site freezing up (3/4/2006 12:48:54 PM)

I use mozilla and I have the freezing up issue. I usually always have 2-3 tabs open. I just get out of collarme and reopen and that takes care of it. But it is a bit of a nuisance as it doesn't happen on the other sites.

SirKenin -> RE: site freezing up (3/4/2006 1:44:44 PM)

Try with another browser and see what happens. Mozilla has known issues such as that. The first thing to do,though, is update your Mozilla to the latest version. It fixes several of the problems Firefox had. If that fails to solve the problem try it with Internet Explorer, as it uses a completely different engine. If that does not work, the issue is with your hardware, either not enough RAM (which is most likely) or not a fast enough CPU.

KatyLied -> RE: site freezing up (3/4/2006 1:52:28 PM)

Okay, thank you, I'm going to do that.

Thank SirKenin.....I've learned a lot from following his technical threads these past few weeks [:)]

I have to agree with others here, that, for some reason, CM here seems to be more prone to the slowdowns than other sites....not that I'm complaining about something I use for free! I'm really not, just making an observation.

I agree with you, however as I previously stated, the slowdownon CM is the same irrespective of which browser I use. To verify this I opened only one window and didn't even open Word which I usually have ready to write posts. Both Firefox and IE slow down to a stage last night where I was smoking one cigarette and at one time two cigarettes waiting for the next page to open. I retested this by poppig over to a mate who is a hardware and software specialist and has uptodate gear. the lagging was the same as on our computers. His comp is running 1Gb ram and uses the latest IE (7 beta I think but it is what you use).

I'm thinking that this is a server probl;em and if the servers are also using other servers for overseas usage or whet ever they do.. (MSN Doies this) the problems could be locally based.

lol. Sometimes it is a server problem, that is true. I did not address that possibility in My post. The key is that if it works fine with just the forum open, but has problems when you use multiple windows, then you know the problem does not lie with Collar Me.

That is the way it is for me. When i do control-alt-delete it usually shows the other window as "not responding", so i think it's an IE problem.

proudsub -> RE: site freezing up (3/31/2006 7:11:55 PM)

I think i figured out why i was freezing up. It was happening in my games every 15 min so i checked my CPU usage and it went up to 100% when i froze, so i looked at the processes running and aolsoftware.exe was running even though i wasn't logged onto aol. I went to aol and turned off the spy zapper and haven't had a problem since then. Apparently it was running every 15 min and using up my resources.[:)]
