Interesting snub of the feds...

KYsissy -> RE: PA firearms freedom law pending (10/5/2009 4:55:14 PM)

I fully support states being able to say what happens within their borders.

You want guns everywhere? Great if you have a population that can do this.

You wanna legalize pot? Do it.

80mph speed limit? Are most of your highways straight and flat? Then do it.

pahunkboy -> RE: PA firearms freedom law pending (10/5/2009 5:01:50 PM)

The whole 10th amendment movement-- I don't know where it can go.  As the central bank might say== fine- secede- and pay up the debt you owe first.

10th amendment movement?

Is that like the 2nd amendment movement? Ya know, people like to speak out when they think their leaders are going in the wrong direction.

Who better to decide what is right for their population?
Some guy in DC or you state representative who lives up the road from you?

Is every law out of Washington right for every county in the US?

Should gun ownership be banned all across the country because it is not working so well in the inner city projects?

Different locations, different populations need different solutions.

PS you still buying silver? I trade stocks. I have done quite well this year. My philosphy is if it moves, shoot it. Blue chip or penny pig, I don't care. If you wanna exchange ideas I'm always open to suggestions.

pahunkboy -> RE: PA firearms freedom law pending (10/5/2009 5:22:58 PM)

Actually I am still buying silver- albiet slower - per budget.  Silver and gold is still the bargain of a lifetime- Chapman says it is the last train out.   :-)

10th Amendment is state rights.

Ialdabaoth -> RE: PA firearms freedom law pending (10/5/2009 6:05:23 PM)

Screw silver or gold. What you're going to want is seed, and the land to plant it in. (Or even better, self-sustaining hydroponics).

What good is gold without an infrastructure to trade it in? But if you build and control that infrastructure...

popeye1250 -> RE: PA firearms freedom law pending (10/5/2009 7:32:36 PM)

One thing I'd like to see is that if you have a concealed gun lisense for one state that all the other states recognise it as well just like a driver's lisense.

slvemike4u -> RE: PA firearms freedom law pending (10/5/2009 10:32:41 PM)

Just a thought popeye....but why should a state whose constituants have set one standard for concealed rights liscences......allow the laws of another state to undermine those standards.
It's not like a drivers liscence at all......not even close.

pahunkboy -> RE: PA firearms freedom law pending (10/6/2009 6:05:11 AM)

Seeing this makes me hopeful.

People value to constitution.

That idea was just shot down recently and I think rightly so. I thinks states should have the right to decide what other states they wish to have recoprocity with on these types of issues. One state might have rigorous requirements for their CCW permits. Why should they be made to honor another state's permit that are handed out in a much more lax fashion? Driver's license requirements are fairly standard from state to state. Concealed carry permits are not that way. I would not like to see this change. I think the current system works well.

for those who might be interested . . .

You can shoot any of them and they are all there, water cooled Thompson's to mini guns and quad .50s.

You buy the ammo  LOL.

That's nationalization, 'socialization' for you. It is a states rights issue there, ted kennedy jr.

LOL, popeye.....

Just to play a little devil's advocate:

Right now, there is a supreme court case asking that the Chicago ban on owning handguns be overturned. Shall we take the position that when a local government wants to expand the ability of people to own and carry firearms it is a local issue, but when they want to make it more difficult, it is a federal issue?

KYsissy -> RE: PA firearms freedom law pending (10/6/2009 4:15:10 PM)

Owning a weapon is a Second Amendment issue.

The legal right to carry that weapon outside of your house is a local issue in my opinion.

Banning ownership goes against the constitution.
Banning concealed carry, or open carry does not, IMO.

Having spent most of my life in Chicago there were times I wish I had a piece on me. And there were times I wished nobody had a piece.

But of course then the question goes to, if ownership is legal, enforcing a "no carry" law is almost impossible.  And I would have to agree with that.

There is no easy answer because if you ban guns in only one place, the ones you do not want to have them will still get them and carry them.  Your law abiding citizens will turn them in, or not carry. Whichever the law is.

So do we disarm everybody, or nobody?

KYsissy -> RE: PA firearms freedom law pending (10/6/2009 4:23:07 PM)

Precious metals are typically a hedge against inflation. Not a profit making trade.

Typically you buy precious metals when you have go-to-hell money.  I am very far from there.

KYsissy -> RE: PA firearms freedom law pending (10/6/2009 4:28:24 PM)

As an aside, a friend of mine who was in the Army reserves at the time, was in downtown Louisville.  Not exactly a hotbed of criminal activity. He got jumped by three guys and one had a .32 automatic. He broke free and ran. He could hear shots behind him as he made for his car.

He got to his car and pulled out his .45.  At the sight of his .45 those three guys took off running in the other direction.  He didn't pull the trigger.  He took one round above his elbow which he discovered after the adrenaline wore off.

Now what would have happened to him if he didn't have a gun? Shot again? beaten and robbed?  Killed for the $40 in his wallet?

Thankfully we will never know because he was able to get to his own weapon.

so shall we focus to limit access of guns to bad guys, or shall we allow more good guys to have guns? What is the criteria of who is good and who is bad? well, even with 5% False Positive, that would be 300,000,000 x 0.05, ouch that is too many....

KYsissy -> RE: PA firearms freedom law pending (10/7/2009 2:50:28 PM)

There are already laws in place. Convicted felons cannot be in possession of a firearm.

tazzygirl -> RE: PA firearms freedom law pending (10/7/2009 6:03:32 PM)

Um... wouldnt the fact that they are convicted felons lead to the understanding that the law doesnt matter to them?

Mike, what if they tried that with the first amendment?
You "cool" with that?
