Kuwaiti Oil Minister Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah said today that demand for crude will improve in the U.S. and Europe next year. He also said Gulf states have no plan to move away from dollar pricing, denying a report in London’s Independent newspaper that oil producers and major consuming nations including China had discussed a shift from the dollar as the currency used to trade crude. Saudi Central Bank Governor Muhammad al-Jasser also denied the report.

The dollar pared declines after the denials. The U.S. currency had fallen as much as 0.8 percent versus the yen and 0.7 percent against the euro following the report, which cited unidentified sources.

"decision to start trading oil for euros instead of dollars that precipitated Bush's invasion of Iraq in 2003"

Spot on, also note that there were billions in Iraqi banks - in dollars. I think he also intended to flood the markets with those dollars. In that way he was really a threat I guess - to the US economy.

Of course taking the wider view, a war would seem to help the economy. Technically it does make for work and some profits for US firms, but it is but a bubble really, blown by the sharks. This is because the money ultimately comes from our pockets.

Add to that the fact that many of our politicos are heavily vested into the war trade, the time was ripe. But they never would've sold the war based on the real reason. I find it almost laughable that they brought up Saddam trying to buy yellowcake from bumfuckt somewhere, back in what 1992 ?

So in a way you could say that Saddam's weapon of mass destruction was printed right here.
